This position is ideal for early career researchers who are interested in working as an imaging scientist. Initial responsibilities will include training users on widefield and confocal microscopes (LSM and spinning disk) as well as assisting with sample preparation as needed. Upon demonstrated ability, the candidate will then have opportunity to learn one or more advanced imaging techniques (e.g. light sheet microscopy, single molecule localization microscopy, structured illumination microscopy, multiphoton in vivo imaging) or sample preparation methods (e.g. tissue clearing, expansion microscopy, correlative light and electron microscopy). Career advancement is based on rapid learning, intrinsic motivation, and ability to work successfully with diverse users on a wide range of different biological projects. Candidate must be well-organized, able to multi-task efficiently, operate with minimal oversight, and ensure that facility users always acquire publication quality data. This position is an internally funded, professional staff role.
St Jude’s Cell & Tissue Imaging Center light microscopy division (CTIC-LM) is an institution-wide imaging facility whose mission is to drive and accelerate the use of advanced imaging technologies across St Jude. As a member of CTIC-LM, you will be part of a dynamic team of imaging scientists, each of whom has unique specialties but shares a common interest in applying imaging technologies to answer biological questions. The Center emphasizes collaborative, in-depth interactions between staff and users to advance research aimed at curing childhood disease. Studies commonly encountered are related to cancer cell biology, developmental neurobiology, and biophysics.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience applying one or more fluorescence imaging modalities in the context of biological research.
- Experience performing one or more sample preparation methods for fluorescence microscopy.
- Understanding of imaging optics or image data display and processing methods.
- Quantitative skills in math, physics, or computer science.
- Authorship contributions to biological imaging research.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs laboratory experiments as directed using specific and prescribed techniques/protocols.
- Follows basic protocols, implementing experimental techniques prescribed by supervisor and providing basic troubleshooting where appropriate.
- Accurately records experimental procedures and data.
- May draft results/data for posters, presentations or publications
- Operates lab equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals of the department and institution
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance
Senior Researcher:
Minimum Education and/or Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific area is required.
Minimum Experience:
- Two (2) years of relevant, post-degree work experience is required.
- No experience is required with a Master’s degree.

Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $60,320 – $105,040 per year for the role of Senior Researcher Or Researcher for Cell & Tissue Imaging Center.
