The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) offers 20 social science and humanities postdoctoral and PhD research fellowships in Japan for 1-12 months. Fellows will collaborate with Japanese researchers to carry out dissertation and postdoctoral research. Short-term and long-term fellowships are available.


HOW MUCH?

$42,200

Monthly stipend of $4,529 for fellows with a PhD and $2,502 for fellows without a PhD. A settling-in allowance of $2,502 for fellowships over 4 months.

AM I ELIGIBLE?

For 12-24 months (long-term): open to scholars who have received doctoral degrees within the last 6 years or are about to receive one. For 1-12 months (short-term): open to scholars who have received doctoral degrees within the last 6 years or are about to receive 1 OR a letter from their institution stating that the applicant is a PhD candidate within 2 years of receiving a PhD. All applicants must have proof of affiliation with an eligible host research institution in Japan. Project description. 2 letters of recommendation.

Open only to U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
