Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The IT Coordinator is responsible for developing and maintaining IT solutions to meet the business needs of users within the University of Maryland’s Administrative groups. This position entails complex problem-solving in a time sensitive environment with a strong focus on client service. The IT Coordinator will also:
  • Perform system administration, configuration, and maintenance for applications hosted on UMD infrastructure as well as externally hosted SAAS products.
  • Serve as network administrator for departmental VLANs.
  • Research internal and external services and work with vendors and other stakeholders to evaluate and procure services and systems.
  • Serve as a first responder for IT security issues and proactively work to ensure the security of Desktops and server-side applications.
  • Provide day to day support for the information technology needs of the user base: This includes Desktop support, software and hardware troubleshooting, network and printer troubleshooting, and A/V system support, instruction, and troubleshooting.
  • Administer and support desktop systems and maintain services for the Office of the President, Senior VP Administrative Affairs and Provost, and VP Administration and Finance and their respective groups and reporting units.
  • The IT Coordinator will keep abreast of the latest support and technology trends, research and resolve difficult support requests, produce user documentation and review, refine, and improve support processes and procedures, and will track and document incidents and projects in incident tracking software.
  • The IT Coordinator is the first point of contact and acts as client representative until technical issues are completely resolved, coordinating any necessary involvement of other teams.
  • This position provides 24×7 on-call emergency support and consultation to mission critical users such as the President, Provost, and Vice-Presidents.
  • This position requires current, in-depth knowledge of desktop operating systems, network software, desktop software, network infrastructure, mobile platforms, A/V principles and products, customer service, and IT life-cycles and best practices.

The successful IT Coordinator will be passionate about customer service and be driven to become a subject matter expert on supported services.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in an IT-related field (Associate’s degree and 5 years related experience or H.S. diploma/GED and 7 years related experience.)
Experience:
5 or more years of IT Desktop Support, network operations center, or system administration experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience deploying, patching, configuring, and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows 10 in an Active Directory environment.
  • Experience deploying, patching, configuring, and troubleshooting Apple macOS
  • Experience using an endpoint management system to administer desktops in an enterprise environment including delivering applications and software updates, packaging software, and re-imaging operating systems.
  • Experience with patching, updating and vulnerability remediation for Windows and macOS as well as third-party applications.
  • Experience with troubleshooting hardware issues.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation and presentation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Must assist, guide, and share information with technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Must be able to work well with others in a cooperative work environment.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or a related technical discipline
  • Experience using a ticketing system to prioritize, document, escalate issues, and build a knowledge base with known solutions
  • Experience managing devices with Microsoft Intune and Jamf
  • Proven technology expertise in more than one relevant core area such asBitLocker, FileVault, PowerShell, Group Policies
  • Certifications: CompTIA A+, MCSA: Windows 10, MCSE: Desktop Infrastructure, Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, Jamf Certified Associate, Jamf Certified Technician, Google IT Support
  • Experience with IT in a higher education environment.

Salary Range: $72,000 – $90,000

Physical Demands
This position works in a typical office environment spending long hours in front of a computer, working at a keyboard. Must be able to attend meetings on campus. Occasional lifting of computer hardware up to 50lbs.
