Description of Work Unit
Colorado State University, Colorado’s first and only Land Grant University with an enrollment of about 30,000, is a public, land-grant institution classified as RI (highest research activity) in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The College of Liberal Arts IT department provides customer service and technical support to the faculty and staff of the 14 departments within the college.
Position Summary
This position will be primarily responsible for providing service for IT help and service requests that will be a mix of novel complex issues and routine issues. This position will be the primary project support with computer replacement projects, new hire deployments, and lab refresh and maintenance projects. This position will also be creating, maintaining, modifying, testing, and updating department documentation for systems and processes, training materials, and knowledge base entries.
Required Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems, Sciences, Business, Management, Liberal Arts or similar field plus one year of full-time professional experience OR
  • An Associate’s degree with 2 full-time years of related professional experience

OR
  • High School Diploma (or GED) with 4 full-time years of related professional experience

Full-time related professional experience is considered as an IT technician with experience encompassing the following areas:
  • Providing IT Support & Service Management through multiple modalities (e.g., in person, ticketing system, remote support, email)
  • Hardware support (e.g., troubleshooting & repair, deployment, provisioning)
  • Software support (e.g., Windows, installation, troubleshooting)
  • IT maintenance activities

Part-time experience is counted at 50% of full-time. Student employment will also be considered.
We will consider applicants that have pending degree awards if the degree will be awarded by 5/31/2024.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Experience providing technology support in a fast-paced higher education organization
  • Demonstrate the ability to offer a high-level of customer service
  • Demonstrate clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to stay current with technology and operating systems
  • Technical experience in any of the following areas:
    • Experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager or Intune for end point management and deployments.
    • Experience with MS Active Directory and object management
    • Apple MacOS, iMac, & MacBook support experience
    • Experience with JAMF Pro device management system
    • Experience mentoring full or part-time employees
    • Technical certifications related to technology desktop support (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+)

Duty/Responsibility
  • Service Desk Requests – provide service for IT help and service requests that will be a mix of novel complex issues and routine issues. Independently manage your work queue, analyze the problem, and determine an appropriate course of action or escalation path. Support requests will also include special duty assignments for non-routine special support requests, consulting with the end user or department to develop a novel solution to their request or special project.
  • Project Support – Primary project support will be with computer replacement projects, new hire deployments, and lab refresh and maintenance projects. Duties include planning the needs of the projects, determining what technology will support the outcome of the project, consulting with the department or end-user about specific needs, & developing/executing a deployment plan to efficiently complete a project within its operational window. This also includes supporting additional projects as needed by the department or unique events/projects.
  • Continuous Operational Improvement – Analyze department processes and make recommendations on changes to processes, systems, or working environments to better facilitate our mission to support the college.
