Job Summary
Under general supervision, oversee the daily coordination and functioning of student learning spaces /testing centers/call centers and assigned Functional Areas. Maintains the working order of labs / departmental equipment and supplies, which may include troubleshooting both hardware and software and making appropriate recommendations regarding repair. Hires, trains, supervise and coordinates the employment of student assistants. Creates and deploys computer lab images and assesses the need for hardware upgrades and makes purchase decisions of computer hardware and software and printers. Collaborates and work closely with assigned departments and researches their future pedagogical / functional needs. Provides technical advice, guidance and informal training to customers using hardware and software programs. Encryption process and application SME.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day students learning space operations or departmental computing needs.
  • Maintain computer labs and departmental hardware and software and resolve any issues if needed. Deepfreeze and Pharos SME.
  • Diagnose and perform basic to advance repairs of computers and printers.
  • Create and Deploy computer lab images and update printer firmware.
  • Maintain software security using Web Jet admin.
  • Handle ITSM logs and escalates when necessary. Vendor relationships and working with outside contractors for warranty repairs. Multi-Platform (Mac & PC) expert.

  • Manage Student Assistants (3-10 student workers) – Hire / Terminate student workers.
  • Provide on-going supervision, and training to student workers.
  • Scheduling and maintaining payroll of student workers.
  • Uses tools /software like When-to-Work, TimePro and UTShare for student payroll.

Client Relationship:
  • Responsible for day-to-day interactions with clients and developing a positive relationship with clients, escalating issues where appropriate, as well as providing follow up and status updates when appropriate. Serving the role of OIT liaison

Special Projects:
  • Support and assist unit’s other services (Tech Loaner, Scanning Services etc.)
  • Reporting – labs usage and printer usage.
  • Handle / resolve student print “refunds” and “reprints”.
  • Web content update – Maintain and update Labs and departmental web content.
  • Assisting with bids for paper, cartridges and lab supplies.
  • Maintaining labs inventory: Hardware, Software and supply i.e. papers cartridges, sanitizers etc.
  • Assisting with campus partnership activities (e.g. delivery of paper, resolving issue tickets).
  • Utilize server-based computer-management consoles in daily work (FDE console, ISO Bridge, SecureDoc, BOX console, Crashplan, SCCM, JAMF, Duo, Print Clusters, and Infoblox).
  • Assist with Encryption room activities.
  • Performing Other Duties.
Required Qualifications
  • Associates degree in related field or three (3) to five (5) years of related computing work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Must be able to obtain Dell certification within 6 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Practical work experience with Microsoft Windows 7 and above OS and Applications, and Mac OS 10.X and Applications.
  • Practical work experience in repairing PCs, Macs, Printers, and network connection issues.
  • Excellent customer service and phone skills.
  • Experience with web development tools used to create, maintain, and update websites. A+, Dell, Apple, HP, and Microsoft certifications a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • This position requires extensive management skills and computer experience.
  • Must have knowledge of computer software and hardware commonly used in the computer lab including operating systems and troubleshooting/hardware maintenance software.
  • As the needs of the student population vary and are constantly changing, analytical and creative abilities are essential for this position.
  • Ability to train and supervise student employees.
  • The ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing are needed. Should be capable of setting priorities and moving several tasks forward simultaneously.

The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:
  • Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department.
  • Knowledge of principles of computing and communications networks, and characteristics of computing hardware and software used in distributed environment.
  • Ability to install and configure desktop computer hardware and software.
  • Ability to install and configure basic data communications and or telecommunications hardware with some supervision with little supervision.
  • Ability to assimilate, retain and utilize technical and applications-oriented information.

Excellent interpersonal skills:
  • Knowledge of UTShare, TimePro, SecureDoc, Bitlocker, FileVault, SCCM, JAMF, CrashPlan, Box, Print.
  • Cliusters, labStats, and Active Directory.
  • Knowledge of systems security procedures and protocol.
  • Knowledge of data protection act, privacy and PCI compliance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and to coordinate with other IT functional areas to resolve and manage resolution.
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • To establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and colleagues.
  • An excellent team player with strong stakeholder management.
  • Ability to learn and support new business systems, software and processes.
