Position Description:

The Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College invites applications for a clinical or tenure track, open rank faculty position within the Department of Radiology.


This position will continue the momentum we have built in creating a growing Vascular & Interventional Radiology service.  If desired, this individual could provide services to both adult and pediatric patient populations.  Research startup funds and protected time to pursue academic interests are available.

About the Department of Radiology:


The Radiology Department includes 37 staff physicians, 14 fellows, 15 Ph.D. researchers, and 36 residents.  The Department is filmless with an electronic medical record and PACS and operates six clinical 64 to 128 and dual source MDCT scanners.  There are nine clinical MR scanners (including three 3T), 3 PET-CT scanners and a bay that is being completed for a PET-MR scanner.


Interventional suites include 2 single plane Artis ZEE, one Artis ZEE biplane, Miyabi (CT/Artis), an ultrasound procedure room and 2 OR hybrid Artis Q (single and biplane). Construction is approved for a OR hybrid replacement, single and bi-plane.  The IR department has been recently remodeled, including a new check in and waiting room, and a large common preparation and recovery room with a total of 14 bays and a single central nursing station.  We also have access to an Artis Zee biplane in the pediatric cardiology catheterization lab adjacent to the pediatric intensive care unit and pediatric OR. Plans are underway for a dedicated pediatric IR suite adjacent to the current pediatric catheterization lab. There are currently five dedicated IR faculty, three physician assistants, and DR/IR integrated and independent residency.

Stead Family Children’s Hospital:


UIHC is Iowa’s only comprehensive academic medical center and regional referral center. The UIHC Stead Family Children’s Hospital opened in 2017 and is Iowa’s only comprehensive children’s hospital.  It is listed as one of the U.S. News & World Report 2020-21 Best Children’s Hospitals.


 

Education Requirement:

  • Medical Degree or equivalent

Required Qualifications:
  • Fellowship trained in interventional radiology. Current fellows in ACGME-approved interventional radiology programs are eligible to apply. 

  • Four years of post-training in radiology.

  • Board certified by the American Board of Radiology or eligible within the first year of post training.

  • Working experience in all aspects of vascular and interventional radiology, including peripheral vascular intervention, TACE, Dialysis access therapy, arterial and venous thrombolysis, biopsies, percutaneous biliary, gastrotomy and nephrostomy tube placement.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with clinicians, patients, and trainees.

  • Experience and ability to foster a welcoming and respectful workplace environment while recognizing personal differences and ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and respectful manner.

  • Desirable Qualifications:
  • Leadership experience with a demonstrated facility for teaching.

  • Strong interest and experience in venous ablation.

  • Strong interest and experience in transcatheter radiotherapy (SIR-Spheres/Therasphers).

  • Strong interest and experience in tumor ablation (RF/Cryo)

  • Strong interest in clinical and lab research.
