Reporting to the Director of International Services, the International Student Services Coordinator is responsible for supporting students applying to, enrolling in, and graduating from SDSU Global Campus programs. The position serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) within the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and facilitates international student admissions, registrations and enrollments. The position is also responsible for coordinating international student housing, and supervising the in-person and virtual front desk functions. The position supports the smooth operation of SDSU Global Campus International Programs, actively promotes the unit's excellent service culture, and provides an outstanding student experience.
Responsibilities
The International Student Services Coordinator is responsible for:

Core Responsibilities

  • Coordinates international student admissions, registrations, enrollments, housing and extracurricular activities.
  • Supports student success and retention efforts in collaboration with Program Coordinators.
  • Oversees the in-person and virtual front desk functions, and supervises Student Assistants.
  • Ensures an excellent student experience.

Position Specific Responsibilities

International Student Admissions, Registrations and Enrollments Coordination - 25%
  • Responds to enrollment inquiries with a service-oriented and student-centered approach.
  • Assists with Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) registrations at the beginning of each term.
  • Utilizes the International Student and Scholar Management (ISSM) system to batch registrations.
  • Provides updates to student legal records as needed.
  • Helps maintain student records in compliance with federal regulations including those of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).


Housing Coordination - 25%
  • Maintains current knowledge of on-campus and off-campus housing environments, with emphasis on inventory and pricing.
  • Makes up-to-date information on housing options available to students.
  • Projects housing needs per term and facilitates master leases accordingly.
  • Conducts cost analyses, and break-even assessments, to establish appropriate rental and service prices.
  • Drafts and prepares housing sub-leases and sends them to /receives them from students.
  • Places students into housing, keeps financial records, creates invoices, prepares for move-in and move-out, and liaises with housing providers.
  • Conducts pre- and post-move-in room inspections.
  • Advises students and troubleshoots situations arising in housing.
  • Collaborates with SDSU Hospitality and Conference services on summer programs housing.

Student Success and Retention Activities - 20%
  • Collaborates with Program Coordinators to research, identify and develop student success and retention programming that supports students in developing a sense of belonging and community.
  • Collaborates with Program Coordinators to promote and deliver extracurricular activities.
  • Creates and distributes event calendars and related communications.
  • Chaperones students on activities.
  • Leverages technology to monitor student data and administration feedback to proactively support students and to develop retention programs and initiatives designed to achieve student success outcomes.
  • Works with Director of International Services and Program Directors to develop system to track student participation in programming and implement the evaluation and assessment of the programming effectiveness.
  • Participates in designated Campus and work groups and/or campus committees as determined by the Director.

Front Desks Supervision - 20%
  • Oversees International Programs in person front desk and reception area.
  • Hires, trains and supervises Student Assistants.
  • Provides Front Desk backup on an as-needed basis.
  • Addresses challenging situations with respect to the variety of cultural perspectives in a diverse local and international student population.
  • Oversees International Programs virtual front desk (Chat function).

Employee Supervision - 5%
  • Staffs and supervises temporary employees and/or Student Assistants as needed for student events, and housing check-ins/-outs.
  • Ensures that daily duties are satisfactorily completed.

Additional Duties - 5%
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in related field. Specialized experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
  • Two-years of professional student services work experience or related field; a masters' degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one-year of professional experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in an international student environment on a university or college campus, and/or large educational entity.
  • Overseas work experience.
  • Fluency in a foreign language.
  • Demonstrated history of strong customer service.

  • Candidate must reside in California or live in a commutable distance from SDSU at time of hire.
