Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare, or a directly related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and five years professional auditing, accounting or compliance experience to include one year supervisory experience. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Healthcare Internal Audit Professional (CHIAP), Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or related certification is preferred. Experience in healthcare or higher education is preferred. Experience in data analytics and/or PowerBI is preferred. Experience with audit software, such as Pentana or K10 is preferred. Master’s degree is preferred.
Job Description Summary
The University of South Alabama’s department of Internal Audit is seeking to hire an Internal Audit Supervisor.  Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Essential Functions


These are the job duties required of the position.


Essential Functions
  • Develops and maintains productive team-oriented client and staff relationships.
  • Identifies and assesses risks via a periodic risk assessment.
  • Assists in the development of the risk-based annual internal audit plan.
  • Researches topics to support, develop and/or modify comprehensive internal audit programs for audit engagements.
  • Utilizes internal audit software for all appropriate steps of the audit engagement process.
  • Develops, modifies, reviews and/or approves audit work plans, methods & procedures.
  • Determines, in conjunction with the Director and/or the Internal Audit Manager, the overall scope and procedures of audit engagements, based on a documented risk assessment.
  • Manages multiple projects across various entities to include determining audit engagement priorities and work schedules and assigning and distributing work to staff, as needed.
  • Supervises professional staff to include assigning projects, reviewing work, approving timesheets, providing training and coaching for professional development, preparing evaluations, and handling disciplinary issues.
  • Leads or conducts performance, operational, financial, or compliance audit engagements to include conducting interviews, documenting client processes and procedures, researching standards, guidelines and criteria, performing audit tests and documenting results, identifying and defining issues, creating written reports of audit engagement results that are accurate, complete and easy to understand, and reviewing work for accuracy, completeness, quality and conformance to departmental policy and audit standards.
  • Completes peer review process.
  • Works to achieve engagement deadlines to ensure completion of the Annual Audit Plan.
  • Communicates or assists in communicating the results of audit or consulting projects to management and/or the Board of Trustees.
  • Resolves problems and mediates conflicts with engagement stakeholders.
  • Provides consulting services to the organization’s management and staff.
  • Supervises or completes external audit assist work and NCAA agreed upon procedures as needed.
  • Maintains all organizational and professional ethical standards and ensures all internal audit activities carried out or supervised are in compliance with The Institute of Internal Auditor’s International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (Standards).
  • Leads the ongoing process of departmental improvement as part of the Quality Improvement and Assessment Process (QAIP).
  • Ability to work independently with latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
  • Pursues professional development opportunities.
  • Serves on organizational project teams or committees as needed.
  • Attends conferences that may require overnight and/or weekend stays.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
  • Related duties as required.
