Job Summary
 

This position will process outgoing interlibrary loan requests to borrowing libraries as well as handle incoming requests. The position requires daily interaction with the campus community as well as regular communication with other libraries. Attention to detail and commitment to service are necessary components of this position. Duties include participating in the supervision of the Circulation student workers. Assistance at the circulation desk is required, including providing customer assistance to library patrons in person and via phone, email and online chat services; retrieving materials, checking materials in and out including computers and multimedia items; shelving materials; assisting patrons with use of the library catalog; locating materials; maintaining computers, scanners, printers, copiers, microfilm machines. The work schedule may vary with possible night and weekend work as needs arise.


Responsibilities
 
  • Provide welcoming, courteous, and actively engaged customer service, including greeting and communicating with faculty, staff, students, and community patrons in person, or by phone, email, or online chat, to identify and address their actual service needs\
  • Perform related duties as assigned by Head of Circulation and ILL to support the mission of the Library and the University
  • Perform related duties as assigned by Head of Circulation and ILL to support the mission of the Library and the University
  • Receive GIL Express and ILL requests from other libraries; determines if policies allow their loan or copy, and perform procedures related to fulfilling, processing, shipping, tracking, and receiving
  • Handle Universal Borrowing (UB) and ILL transactions at the patron level and run related reports and assist with resolving issues related to UB affairs. Complete orders from borrowing libraries and return borrowed materials in a timely manner
  • Keep accurate records of transactions, renewals and cross-train in the handling of invoices and statistics. Assist in maintaining the currency and accuracy of documentation in consultation with the ILL Librarian and Head of Circulation and IL.
  • Develop proficiency with the ILLiad system, scanning hardware and software, photocopiers, microform readers/printers, GIL-find catalog, GALILEO, and electronic databases, computer maintenance and troubleshooting, and correcting problems as necessary
  • Communicate and cooperate with students, faculty, and staff across the library, University and University System of Georgia (USG) libraries in assisting with needs and resolving issues
  • Work to enhance services and streamline work practices in consultation with the ILL Librarian and the Head of Circulation and ILL
  • Interpret library policies and procedures for users and provide information about access to collections and spaces
  • Regular outreach and library promotions activities including the creation and updating of user guides, promotional handouts informational flyers/signs, and brochures

Required Qualifications
 

Educational Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Experience

  • Three (3) or more years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications
 

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Library of Congress classification system

Preferred Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with Alma ILS system.
  • Experience with Illiad interlibrary loan software
  • Experience with document scanning 
  • Academic library experience

Proposed Salary
 

$13.51 - $16.53

This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
