Scope of Position:

As the Lead, Signage and Wayfinding, this role assumes a strategic position within the Wexner Medical Center Space and Facilities Design department at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. With a primary focus on cultivating and supervising the visual identity of OSUWMC and the College of Medicine, the incumbent oversees a spectrum of essential responsibilities, which encompasses leading the team in conducting visual identity assessments, managing signage requests, coordinating planning and execution, documenting alterations to existing signage, and contributing to project teams. The position extends to budgeting, estimating, scheduling tasks, supervising installations, and ensuring the successful completion of projects. Establishing and implementing an effective procurement strategy is integral to the role, supporting the evolution and advancement of OSUWMC's branding initiatives, signage, and wayfinding systems. Responsibilities include all WMC-owned and leased sites across the enterprise and College of Medicine, which currently entail approximately eight (8) million square feet, which will grow to over eleven (11) million square feet by 2026.

Position Summary:

In the Lead, Signage and Wayfinding capacity, this role emerges as a key leader within the WMC Space and Facilities Design department, reporting directly to the Senior Director of Facilities and Planning. Operating within a dynamic and matrix environment, the position involves directing the daily operations and providing strategic guidance to the team. Beyond managing the team's efficiency in diverse initiatives spanning healthcare, retail, academic, and research spaces, the Lead plays a pivotal role in project management, encompassing new construction, renovations, furniture, and relocations. The primary accountability lies in streamlining overall project processes and aiding the team in devising solutions for project budgets and schedules. The Lead endorses OSU's sustainability objectives by aiming for compliant planning and design solutions, prioritizing safety, compliance, and an exceptional user experience. Additionally, responsibilities include training and evaluating staff, enforcing design standards, and fostering regular communication with various OSUWMC shared services teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This role will work with the Department of Space and Interior Design Planning management in an internal and external facing capacity. Specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties assigned by the senior department leadership as needed:

  • Lead and inspire a dynamic team, fostering an atmosphere of ownership, engagement, and innovation.

  • Develop and promote an innovation culture, utilizing tools and processes for continuous improvement.

  • Cultivate a culture focused on trust, teamwork, and empathy.

  • Conduct bi-weekly departmental meetings to enhance team culture and communication.

  • Establish and maintain a culture of innovation, encouraging staff to think creatively.

  • Collaborate with project teams and department leaders to identify and implement innovative solutions.

  • Conduct needs assessments to evaluate customer requests and assist in setting priorities within budget constraints.

  • Facilitate effective communication strategies with customers, informing them about the design process and time requirements.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

The position requires a bachelor's degree with 6 years of interior design planning with an emphasis on environmental graphics related to signage and wayfinding.

Other qualifications include:

  • Self starter with proven experience in proactive collaboration and effective team building, showcasing a track record of initiating and fostering successful teamwork.

  • Possess a strong understanding of CAD and REVIT platforms.

  • Proficient in using essential computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, OneDrive).

  • Experience and proficiency in Bluebeam, Workday, and Kronos are desirable.
