General Information
The Counseling Center (CC) at James Madison University (JMU) is accepting applications for an Intake/Crisis clinician The CC has a commitment to diversity and professionals with the awareness, knowledge and skills required to work effectively with a diverse clientele, to strive toward multicultural competence, and to enhance the CC’s diversity mission. Duties and Responsibilities
The Intake/Crisis Clinician is a 12 month continuing position. This position provides intake and crisis assessment within a well-established walk-in system to students experiencing emotional/psychological distress through both in-person contacts and phone interactions and subsequent referral to clinically-indicated services. The position will also interface with the JMU community to provide consultation to students, faculty, staff and others who are concerned about the distressed, unusual, problematic, or potentially harmful behavior of others. Further, the position may provide training and supervision in support of the Counseling Center’s robust training programs. Depending upon Center needs and/or clinician interest, the position may provide brief counseling to a small case load of clients
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • The successful candidate must have a master’s degree in counseling or social work or a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology and be licensed or license eligible as a licensed professional counselor, licensed clinical social worker, or licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Ability to be licensed within the Commonwealth of VA within one year of hire.
  • Previous training and/or experience working in a college mental health setting.
  • At least one year of experience providing crisis care/stabilization services.
  • Experience completing risk assessments and disposition planning to mitigate safety risks.
  • Interest and/or experience collaborating with other departments and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Well-developed counseling skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to multicultural competency.
  • A self-motivated, self-directed commitment to high professional ideals.
  • Demonstrated skill in working well under pressure to prioritize and manage multiple complex clinical situations.
  • A collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect and trust towards colleagues.
  • The energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of the role while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
