Position Overview

The Ohio State University’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences invites applications for a faculty member within our Health Information Management and Systems (HIMS) division at the Instructor-Practice rank. This position consists of an initial 3-year appointment that is renewable based upon annual reviews.

We are seeking faculty who will teach within the HIMS program in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences; mentor students; participate in accreditation activities and teach a variety of courses in support of the HIMS program. Successful candidates must have appropriate educational preparation to teach within our HIMS program.

Our HIMS accredited bachelor’s degree is a CAHIIM-accredited undergraduate professional program that attracts high quality students and prepares them for careers in healthcare business intelligence, clinical coding, quality improvement and analytics.  Traditional students in this degree program are prepared for entry-level healthcare positions as well as to pursue graduate education in a variety of health care professions.

Performance Objectives

Successful candidates must be able to:

  • teach in-person and online within HIMS;
  • contribute service to the program, School, College, University and professional organizations.
  • The candidate will undertake 75-85% teaching, 10% service and 7-10% administration of clinical education.


Education and Experience Requirements

Required : Bachelor's Degree. Experience in management in Health Information Management, training, and mentoring direct reports in a variety of positions in Health Information Management.

Desired: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification. Master’s Degree; teaching experience including a record of intentional teaching practice including (a) creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all learners, (b) using new techniques, activities and types of learning, (c) promoting diversity of thought, and (d) promoting open-minded exploration.
