The Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) is a major locus for biomedical education including undergraduate, graduate, veterinary and post-doctoral training and for translational biomedical research at Colorado State University. BMS houses more than 30 research laboratories. Faculty members’ interests run the gamut from human and animal anatomy and neuroanatomy, reproductive biology and endocrinology to molecular neuroscience and cardiovascular physiology.

Position Summary
The Department of Biomedical Sciences is seeking an Instructor (9-month) or Assistant Professor (9-month) to assist with delivering undergraduate, graduate, and professional animal anatomy instruction by the Department of Biomedical Sciences. This Animal Anatomy faculty is an integral member of the anatomical services teaching team and will integrate into other biomedical sciences teaching as expertise allows. Animal Anatomy course responsibilities include BMS304 and BMS305 in both giving lecture and as a floor anatomist in the lab, BMS531, VM616, and VM619 as a floor anatomist in the lab and BMS 633 with presentation feedback. This position may be involved in the updated DVM curriculum anticipated to begin in Fall 2026 at CSU. Course descriptions can be viewed in the CSU Catalog (https://catalog.colostate.edu/general-catalog/courses-az/). This position will contribute to curriculum development, student advising, and support K-12 and community outreach efforts such as Zoetis Summer Animal Anatomy Camp, and anatomy outreach presentations.

Required Job Qualifications
For Instructor
  • BS in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Physiology, Neuroscience, or closely related field, with didactic and dissection experience in animal anatomy OR Master of Science degree in animal anatomy

For Assistant Professor
  • DVM or PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Physiology, Neuroscience, or closely related field.
  • Clinical or applied anatomy experience

AND (at both ranks)
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Adobe PDF, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
  • Knowledge of domestic animal anatomy as demonstrated through teaching experience or coursework
  • Experience with cadaveric dissection of domestic animals (ie. dogs, cats, horses, large or small ruminants.)
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • 2 or more years of experience teaching animal anatomy with a laboratory component, including lecture development/delivery, construction of learning objectives with associated laboratory and didactic examinations, management of or collaboration with teaching teams, and management/delivery of courses using an LMS.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to coordinate needs of various stakeholders and execute deliverables.
  • Cadaver embalming and preparation.
  • Experience in K-12 and community outreach and/or teaching programs.
  • Experience with pedagogical research, curriculum development, or applied application of learning outcomes.
  • Experience using or creating Virtual Reality for teaching and learning
  • Knowledge of histology, theriogenology, and exotic, non-domestic animal anatomy.
