Job Purposes::


Instructor of Motion Pictures and Director of the Tom Hanks Center for Motion Pictures to start in July 2024.
The Motion Pictures Program at Wright State is a nationally recognized program which draws students from across the Unites States. It is one of the oldest and most established programs housed within the State of Ohio. Our students' narrative and documentary films have won national and international recognition and awards at major festivals and competitions including Sundance and the Student Emmys; and our robust community of faculty and alums includes Oscar, Emmy, and Sundance winners.
NTEs teach 8-10 classes per academic year depending on service duties. Performing the duties of the Tom Hanks Center Director will reduce the teaching load to2-3 classes per academic year. The director will coordinate key aspects of the Motion Pictures program and be the main point of contact between the program and external stakeholders, including employers, internship providers, secondary schools and community colleges, and alumni. They will also teach 2-3 classes per academic year.

Required Qualifications::

  • Master's of Fine Arts degree in a related field or Bachelor of Fine Arts and equivalent professional work experience of at least five years (such as industry/on-set experience in film and/or television production/post-production leadership roles) or PhD in motion pictures or a related field.
  • A strong background in student-centered approaches to teaching including experience in and/or commitment to working with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles, and/or first-generation, BIPOC, queer-identifying and/or disabled university/college students.

Preferred Qualifications::

  • A record of creative, scholarly, or professional accomplishments (such as film festival screenings, awards, publications, and honors), evidence of successful pre-professional and/or university-level teaching (such as faculty appointments, leading professional workshops or Master Classes, syllabi, student evaluations, and/or teaching philosophy statement).
  • A record of creative work that supports the curricular goals of mentoring students making professional-quality short fiction and/or non-fiction films, and the ability to create a dynamic learning environment that values instructor/student interaction.

Essential Functions and percent of time::


80-90% Teaching or Equivalent Director Duties
10-20% Service for the department, college and university
