Job Summary/Basic Function
About This Role:
The College of Business at Lamar University is actively seeking candidates for an instructor in the field of Management Information Systems (MIS). This nine-month appointment at the rank of Instructor is set to commence in August 2024. This is a full-time, non-tenure track, salary negotiable on qualifications and experience.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities
  • Teaching software-intensive MIS courses, both on-campus and online, across our BBA, MBA, and MS in MIS programs. A strong interest in teaching SAP-enabled MIS courses is essential. Must have the ability to teach graduate and undergraduate MIS courses, including Business Intelligence, E-Commerce, Systems Analysis and Design, Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity Management, and Python Programming
  • Service demonstrated by active participation in department, college, and
    university committees

Key Competencies:

  • Knowledge of Management Information Systems (MIS):
  • Deep understanding of MIS concepts, theories, and principles.
  • Proficiency in areas such as database management, systems analysis, business intelligence, and information technology.

Teaching Skills:
  • Ability to effectively convey complex MIS concepts to undergraduate and graduate students. Skill in developing course materials, syllabi, and assessments. Proficiency in employing various teaching methods, including lectures, discussions, case studies, and hands-on exercises. Capacity to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills in students.

Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in relevant programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R) and software tools commonly used in MIS practice. Familiarity with database management systems (DBMS), enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and other MIS technologies. Ability to integrate emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and blockchain into MIS curricula.

Communication Skills:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for effectively presenting ideas, and MIS concepts.

Leadership and Teamwork:
  • Capability to work collaboratively within academic departments and interdisciplinary teams. Leadership skills in guiding student organizations, or academic committees. Capacity to contribute to departmental initiatives, curriculum development, and accreditation processes.

Professional Development:
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development through scholarly activities, conferences, workshops, and continuing education.

Physical Requirements

  • To be on-campus for teaching and other academic activities

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)
  • MS in Management Information Systems.
  • One year teaching experience
  • Eighteen doctoral credit hours required.
  • MS in MIS with 18 doctoral credit hours in the discipline.
  • Willingness to obtain SAP TS/410 Certification within a year
Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)
  • Ph.D. in Information Systems. SAP TS/410 Certification. Teaching experience.
  • 2-3 years of teaching experience
