EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Full time, Non-tenure Track position

PRIMARY DUTY: Seeking a biologist to teach introductory level lectures in general biology for non-science majors and the accompanying laboratory sections.  The preferred candidate will also coordinate the operation of non-majors biology laboratory sections, supervising undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants.  The ability to contribute to other portions of the departmental curriculum by assisting with labs or other courses is preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Teach an introductory lecture survey of biology for non-majors.
  • Teach multiple sections of the non-majors biology laboratory sections.
  • Serve as non-majors biology lab coordinator
  • Contribute to other teaching opportunities as appropriate depending on need and the candidate’s academic background.
  • Cover a typical annual teaching load of 12 load hours per term (fall and spring).
  • Serve the Department and University on committees as assigned.
  • Hold seven office hours/week.
  • Provide additional student support in the form of academic advisement, mentorship, or other student assistance as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Department.

    EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED:  Common classroom teaching equipment and laboratory instrumentation.

    TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to complete essential functions in the classroom and laboratory.
