Position Summary
The School of Physical Therapy Sports Medicine Residency is seeking a qualified part-time faculty member to serve as a residency mentor and instructor. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission.
This applicant pool will remain open and be used to hire interested part-time Sports Medicine Residency faculty as needed.
This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you, as the employee, to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about Title IX violations. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

Essential Functions
  • Serve as an onsite resident mentor for clinical and/or athletic healthcare, wellness and injury prevention.
  • Serves as a primary or secondary instructor for Sports Physical Therapy Residency curriculum.
  • Work collaboratively with Sports Physical Therapy Residency faculty to ensure program and curriculum outcomes are met.
  • Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
  • Utilize outlines based on approved departmental syllabi.
  • Create an environment that will enable the student to achieve the course objectives.
  • Properly evaluate student achievement according to criteria communicated to students at the beginning of each course.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology or proven ability to learn these skills.
  • Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting physical therapy education (to include residency and fellowships) and practice.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
  • Graduate of an accredited physical therapy program.
  • Earned doctoral degree (DPT, DSc and/or PhD).
  • Board-Certified in Sports Physical Therapy.
Required Work Experience
  • Five (5) years experience as a licensed physical therapist.

OR
  • Two (2) years if a graduate of a residency program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior clinical instructor experience.
  • Active in clinical practice.
  • Prior teaching experience in a Sports Residency or Fellowship.
  • Prior teaching experience in a physical therapy academic program.
  • Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
  • Texas Physical Therapy License or ability to obtain a Texas Physical Therapy License.
  • Member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
