Salary/Pay Range : $50,000 annually. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications.

Summary

The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies (GES) at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) invites applications for an Instructor in Geology, to begin in August 2024. This is a non-tenured 9-month, academic year (August - May) position and is expected to be renewed.

The GES department is equipped with a suite of geospatial software and lab facilities, collegial and productive faculty, approximately 170 undergraduate majors and 20 MA students.

Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching geology courses for the geology minor and other relevant GES courses as needed. (https://ges.uccs.edu/academics/geology-minor).
  • Teaching 24 credit hours per year of introductory and advanced geology courses, such as Physical Geology, Historical Geology, Paleontology, Sedimentology and Stratigraphy, or other classes.
 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Education: Master’s degree in Geology or relevant Geoscience field.
  • Experience: At least one semester of teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellence in teaching.
  • Commitment to in-person learning.
  •  Field work and field-based teaching experience.
  •  Knowledge of the diverse geology of the Rocky Mountain West.
  • Skills in geological field mapping.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Physical Requirements

Employees must be able to teach in person, communicate with students, faculty, and staff and conduct research and/or produce scholarship/creative work.
