Job Description

Great Basin College in Elko, Nevada is seeking a full-time, 9-month, tenure track position Business Instructor for accounting and finance that will commence in the Fall 2024 semester, reporting to the Dean of Business and Computer Technologies. The position may be based at the main GBC Campus in Elko or any of its center locations in Ely, Pahrump, or Winnemucca.  The successful candidate will join the Great Basin Business Department, where they will be responsible for administering both lower and upper division coursework in Associate and Bachelor of Applied Science (AAS and BAS) programs. The successful candidate will possess the credentials and commitment to teach in the above areas with a broad background in business, accounting, or finance. In addition to instructional responsibilities, this position will be expected to directly participate in the scheduling and oversight of the business department programs and courses.

Qualifications

Required:

• A minimum of a Master’s degree in a field related to business, accounting or finance (such as an MBA)

• Considerable professional work experience in business, accounting or finance.

Preferred:

• A Ph.D. in an accounting or finance related field.

• Some previous teaching experience is and teaching in a higher education setting.

Other qualifications that may be considered of the applicant include:

• Experience in delivering business-related programs.

• An earned professional designation, such as a CPA, CMA, or other equivalent professional experience.

• An educational philosophy which places the primary emphasis on student learning in the design, delivery, and evaluation of courses.

• Must be highly self-motivated and self-directed.

• Evidence of the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

• Willingness to teach both live and online classes is required; previous experience in distance education delivery is strongly preferred. Class offerings include day, evening, and off-site locations.

• Familiarity with business/accounting software is required.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for the scheduling, management, teaching, and continuing development of business-related courses. There will be upper division course development and instruction in the BAS degree program. Other responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Teach finance, accounting, or economics courses on a regular and frequent basis.

• Teach other business and related classes as needed.

• Provide a minimum of five office hours per week to students.

• Coordinate and mentor adjunct instructors in the business area.

• Participate in budget decisions in the Business Department.

• Take an active role in college and community service(s).

• Actively engage the business community of the GBC service area to provide the training and education needed.

• Work as a team member with a genuine spirit of cooperation and flexibility in a college setting.

• Recruit and advise students.

• Perform required college faculty committee work and other commitments as required.

• Other duties as assigned.

Travel

The position may require driving to other GBC campuses, with or without reasonable accommodation as per the Americans with Disabilities Act, with possible overnight stays to coordinate students and programs throughout the service area. There must be a commitment to the GBC mission to serve rural Nevada. The successful candidate will participate in several state-wide or national meetings each year that require overnight travel.

Compensation Grade

Academic Grade - 3

The budgeted salary range for this position is $46,691 - $70,000

Salary is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees

Great Basin College is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee’s spouse or domestic partner.

Transcripts

Newly hired faculty must assure that their official transcripts are sent by the degree granting institution(s) to Great Basin College Human Resources Office within 30 days from the effective date of employment.  Regionally accredited institutions must have awarded academic degrees.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.  Any expense related to the evaluation will be the responsibility of the candidate.
