Job Title:  Instructor – Aging Surgical Wellness Program Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant)

Job Summary:

The Division of GI, Tumor and Endocrine Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine, has a full-time faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA).  Under the direction of the full-time faculty or designee, this position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH).

The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services and oversight for the Aging Surgery Wellness quality program at the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH). These duties will include inpatient responsibilities such as rounding, writing orders, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, disease management, and discharge activities. These duties will include outpatient responsibilities such as pre-operative evaluation, pre-surgical care coordination, post-discharge evaluation and post-discharge care coordination. Patient care coordination responsibilities will include monitoring operating room schedule, coordinating Aging Surgical Wellness preoperative optimization, overseeing Aging Surgical Wellness program Epic chart templates, overseeing Aging Surgical Wellness data collection, educating UCHealth providers and staff about the Aging Surgical Wellness Program standards and outcomes, providing data feedback to UCHealth providers and staff, preparing for national site visit for Aging Surgical Wellness program and representing the Aging Surgical Wellness Program at national site visits.

Close collaboration with general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, geriatric medicine physicians, internal medicine hospitalist physicians, nursing team members, pharmacy team members, physical therapy team members, nutritionist team members and other hospital staff will be necessary. The advanced practice provider will work with a multi-disciplinary faculty involved with the care of older adults undergoing major operations. The NP/PA will be the critical position providing service continuity for the Aging Surgical Wellness Program’s delivery of high-quality care processes. Work schedule will include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:  

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.  

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Masters degree in Nursing and/or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current Colorado license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse and/or Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges.
  • Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (Nurse Practitioner) and the Medical Review Board (Physician Assistant).  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years experience in general surgery, orthopedic surgery or a surgical subspecialty in the inpatient clinical setting
  • OR experience in caring for hospitalized older patients

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$103,000 to $141,000

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
