Position Description:

The Office of Undergraduate Medical Education's Instructional Technology Department is seeking an Instructional Technology Assistant II. This position will support Apple device and learning space technologies for the medical school's faculty, staff, and students under the Assistant Director of Instructional Technology. The candidate should have expertise in Mac OS, iOS, and basic Windows OS, with a knack for troubleshooting computer and AV issues including PowerPoint, lecture capture, and video conferencing.

Communication skills are essential, as the role involves assisting users with diverse technical know-how, and working both solo and in a team under senior staff. Responsibilities encompass supporting technologies in classrooms, auditoriums, labs, and event spaces. The individual will have chances to explore new technologies and software, while helping to update tech-related documentation.

In-person attendance is a must, with the responsibility of aiding instructors in tech setup for classes from 8am Monday-Friday, and occasional weekends. The Instructional Technology Consultant plays a vital role in ensuring a smooth start to every class by assisting faculty and students with their technological needs. Their expertise ensures that teaching and learning commence seamlessly, minimizing disruptions and maximizing the educational experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in providing technical support to the medical school's faculty, staff, and students.
  • Setup, image, and troubleshoot Apple computers. Participate in the installation and maintenance of hardware and software, including updates and patches, with supervision as needed.
  • Help faculty use classroom audio-visual technology, including PowerPoint presentations, live streaming and video conferencing. Assist in troubleshooting technical issues and provide resolutions, both remotely and in-person.
  • Assist senior technologists in integrating audio-visual control systems for classrooms, collaborate with vendors and third-party technology integrators.
  • Communicate effectively with users of varying technical backgrounds to provide technical support and assistance. Aim for exceptional customer service and a commitment to resolving technical issues with support from senior staff. Assist in training faculty, staff, and students on technology use and best practices, as directed.
  • Medical student support: interact with the students via phone, email, chat, or in person to provide assistance, answer inquiries, and resolve Macbook issues promptly and professionally.
  • Adaptability: The ability to adapt to different customer personalities, inquiries, and challenges. Candidate should be flexible and adjust their communication style based on the customer's needs.
  • Work under supervision and as part of a team to provide technical support for all technologies used in the learning space environment of the medical school. Assist in technology-related projects, including the implementation and roll-out of new technologies. Collaborate with other technology specialists to ensure a consistent user experience, with support from senior team members.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating technology-related documentation, including user guides, manuals, and troubleshooting procedures, under the direction of the Assistant Director of Instructional Technology or other senior staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree or 1 year related work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work to meet multiple, competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to trouble-shoot technology problems.
  • Ability to work along side a diverse range of constituents; faculty, clinicians, residents, staff and students.
  • Prior experience setting up PC and Apple computers is required.
  • Experience designing and setting up classroom or special event audio visual systems.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other technology specialists to ensure a consistent and cohesive user experience across all technologies used in the medical school environment.
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
