Curriculum and Instructional Program Coordinator

This position supports the Center for Language Studies (CLS) mission to help students acquire the advanced language and cultural skills they need for their personal enrichment and for global careers in any of the University¿s academic disciplines. S/he provides administrative support to the Associate Director of Curriculum and Instruction in mentoring and supporting language instructors, monitoring and assisting in course design and development, monitoring and assisting in ensuring compliance with learning outcomes, and conducting faculty observations and instructor trainings. This individual also assists in operating the Center¿s diverse initiatives involving its 60+ undergraduate language courses and language programs.

 

What you¿ll do in this position: 

Curriculum and Instruction

Under the direction of the CLS Associate Director of Curriculum and Instruction: 

  • Assist in the recruiting, interviewing, and decision-making process of adjunct faculty for language class instruction.
  • Observe classroom instruction during both day and evening classes; Provide feedback on instruction; Collect and review information from instructors related to General Education learning outcomes; Plan and facilitate in-service meetings for instructors; Monitor and assist instructors use of BYU Learning Suite including development and delivery of course syllabus; Development of class schedule; Recording and delivery of grades.
  • Manage language challenge exams for 20+ Less Commonly Taught Language (LCTL) courses each semester.

 Class Scheduling/Grade Monitor

  • Schedule courses and monitor enrollment for courses offered by the Center for Language Studies; Coordinate with instructors to prepare detailed class schedules for the academic year; Recruit students for language course enrollment; Prepare class schedules, course information and classroom assignments, and submit information to Class Scheduling through CourseDog; Be the liaison for CLS adjunct faculty.
  • Other duties related to the operation of the Center for Language Studies as assigned.

 

Education/Experience

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3+ years of teaching a foreign language or TESOL
  • Relevant curriculum design or instructional implementation experience
  • Familiarity with language-teaching pedagogy principles and language-assessment techniques and procedures
  • Experience working with or teaching about diverse cultures

Preferred:

  • Master¿s degree
  • 5+ years of teaching experience
  • Familiarity with American Council on the Teaching of Foreign (ACTFL) Oral Proficiency Guidelines
  • Experience using on-line learning management software such as BYU Learning Suite
  • Experience creating foreign-language course syllabi and learning outcomes
  • Experience teaching instructors teaching techniques to improve the classroom experience and build language proficiency.
