The Instructional Multimedia Designer will work with instructional designers and Ohio State faculty members to brainstorm, plan, create, and maintain high-quality, accessible, inclusive instructional media, including immersive experiences, video, 3D objects and environments, interactive branching activities, simulated experiences, and games or activities that allow for authentic practice of knowledge and skills facilitated by multimedia technology. The planning and execution of these instructional media projects will be based on evidence-based principles of multimedia learning, instructional design, online pedagogy, and effective college teaching. This individual will demonstrate excellent communication and collaboration with faculty in planning and brainstorming sessions and will have expertise in agile project management principles to co-facilitate collaborative development projects. This role will involve management of numerous projects in collaboration with instructional design and educational technology teammates.

This role will also contribute to the operations and innovation of Ohio State Online’s multimedia approach, working with team colleagues and university stakeholders to maintain high-quality standard practices and procedures, assessment measures, templates, and documentation. This role will have responsibility for maintaining and refining the team’s software platforms and hardware related to augmented reality, virtual reality, and 3D objects and spaces.

This individual will also engage with university colleagues and community and professional contacts to identify, research, and test emerging instructional multimedia technologies, especially those related to immersive environments. As a member of the Learning Design and Innovation team, the individual in this role will contribute to a range of projects and initiatives in support of Ohio State’s online learning opportunities.

Duties Overview

60% Collaborate with Course Design team colleagues and Ohio State faculty members to brainstorm, plan, create, and maintain high-quality, accessible instructional media, including immersive experiences, video, 3D objects and environments, interactive branching activities, simulated experiences, and games or activities that allow for authentic practice of knowledge and skills.

20% Contribute to the operational excellence of Ohio State Online’s multimedia functions, including development of standard operating procedures, assessment and impact measurement, asset templates, re-usable assets, and documentation. Oversee and maintain software and hardware platforms that support AR/VR and 3D learning spaces and objects, addressing accessibility and technical considerations in partnership with IT and educational technology partners.

10% Identify, research, and test new technology tools and techniques for instructional multimedia. Nurture the evolving network of faculty, staff, and student partners and practitioners on campus through communities of practice, faculty learning communities, workshops, and other relationship-building and structured programming.

10% Other duties as assigned in support of initiatives to advance and improve online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced instruction.

Required Education:

Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
 

Required Experience:

  • 2 years professional experience in a higher education institution in a role related to instructional design and multimedia development;
  • Experience with video production in an educational context;
  • Experience designing, developing, and evaluating digital learning objects and giving and receiving peer feedback on work in progress;
  • Applied experience designing, developing and delivering immersive educational experience, environments, and assets using tools such as Unity Reflect, Blender and Sketchfab;
  • Detailed knowledge of web accessibility requirements related to multimedia e-learning authoring tools in an educational context

Desired Experience:

  • Experience remediating or authoring immersive multimedia objects based on a comprehensive set of web accessibility requirements;
  • Experience leading intensive brainstorming and ideation sessions on instructional multimedia with faculty members at a large university;
  • Experience applying agile project management techniques and technology tools to manage multimedia development projects;
  • Experience with authoring 360-degree video content and 3D visual animations and motion graphics;
  • Experience presenting about instructional multimedia strategies with diverse audiences and learners.
