The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Instructional Designer. The Instructional Designer applies their expertise in instructional design principles and practices to design, develop, manage, and support online, hybrid courses, and online programs. They offer consulting and professional development to faculty and staff on instructional and multimedia technologies, ensuring the quality of online and hybrid course offerings to enhance student success. Additionally, they assist faculty in understanding effective pedagogical methods, supporting institutional initiatives to improve course design across all delivery modes. They work collaboratively with faculty and administration in program development to create or modify a program's or curriculum's overarching goal, structure, flow, and alignment. This role, based at the Dahlonega campus, extends support to multiple campuses, delivering comprehensive training, assistance, and resources to faculty engaged in online and hybrid education.

  • Conduct formative reviews of online courses applying the various rubric standards (QM, Audits, evaluations, etc.).
  • Partner with faculty regarding instructional design and effective teaching strategies related to the use of technology to enhance online/hybrid course design.
  • Assist in the online/hybrid faculty development program in multiple modalities.  Provide instructional design consultation to faculty and staff for any teaching modality, including the online teaching environment course or learning management system (LMS).
  • Applies relevant instructional design models to the design and development of online, blended, web-enhanced, and traditional learning environments and supports the online and hybrid course developers with new course development, assuring the use of online educational best practices and the Quality Matters Standards. Help incorporate innovative methods of content delivery in the online environments using appropriate technologies.
  • Plan/design/develop and provide online teaching resources in online teaching principles/best practices, including facilitation, active learning, and learning with technology.  Maintain and curate the repository of quality online teaching resources including online instructional principles and best practices, facilitation, active learning, and use of instructional technologies while collecting and analyzes data.
  • Assist in online audits and evaluations at the beginning and during each semester to ensure course content and faculty involvement to ensure quality course design and student success.
  • Attend appropriate conferences, seminars, and workshops/webinars to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of distance education/instructional design.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of learning management applications, multimedia development tools. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; excellent Interpersonal and teamwork skills. 
  • Ability to multitask, manage workload, and meet deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • One year of experience in instructional design or online teaching required. 
  • Experience with a course management system such as Desire2Learn (D2L), Brightspace required.
  • Master's preferred.
  • Experience working in higher education preferred. 
  • Experience in online program development preferred.
