Essential Job Duties
The Instructional Designer will report to the Associate Director of Instructional Design and will be part of the Instructional Design Group (IDG) within the Poole College of Management. The Instructional Design Group aims to partner with faculty to improve student success.
To achieve our purpose, the Instructional Design Group partners with Poole College of Management faculty to design and develop high-quality and engaging courses. We help faculty implement course quality assurance standards, create engaging course videos, implement teaching best practices, and integrate instructional design and adult learning theories into online courses and course materials. We help integrate accessibility, universal design, diversity, equity, and inclusion into the college’s programs. Additionally, the team supports faculty and staff learning through training opportunities, online help guides and resources, and individual help calls. These resources are relevant to all modes (e.g., online, in-person) and levels (e.g., undergraduate, graduate) of teaching in the Poole College of Management.

Essential Job Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Consult with faculty to design and develop high-quality and engaging online courses.
  • Create and update course materials, including web content, interactive exercises, assessments, and communications in collaboration with faculty and the Instructional Design Group.
  • Lead development of the monthly IDG newsletter and track newsletter analytics.
  • Develop learning analytics tracking to support course redesigns.
  • Coordinate, advertise, and facilitate training opportunities on instructional design and instructional technology processes.
  • Create training resources for faculty and staff, such as job aids, short videos, and help files.
  • Answer instructional technology and instructional design one-off help requests.
  • Research and explore instructional design trends, research, and new technologies that may benefit Poole College of Management courses.
  • Assist college staff with projects that support college instructional goals.

This position is eligible for a Hybrid schedule at the discretion of their Supervisor.
Other Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Instructional Design Group to create prescribed instructional design processes for our college programs and courses.
  • Build relationships with faculty and staff across the college and university to advance our college’s instructional quality.
  • Participate in college and university committees and related professional groups to maintain and share expertise.
  • Participate and present at professional conferences to promote the PCOM brand and achievements.
  • Provide project management oversight to Instructional Design team projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Post-baccalaureate credentials in instructional design, education, or a relevant field 

OR
  • A bachelor’s degree in instructional design, education, or a relevant field plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree \
Other Required Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and establish collegial relationships with faculty and staff.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies as related to teaching and learning.
  • Experience in designing and developing distance education courses using online technologies either individually or in collaboration with others.
  • Intermediate level skills with at least one learning management system (LMS) such as Moodle, Canvas, or Blackboard.
  • Intermediate level skills with at least one video conferencing system, such as Zoom, Google Meet, or WebEx Meetings etc.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least two years of experience working with faculty in a higher education setting.
  • Project management experience (including managing time, establishing priorities, distributing responsibilities, and meeting milestones and deliverables), especially using Agile or similar methodology.
  • Experience applying usability and accessibility considerations in instructional design.
  • High level of independence and initiative.
  • Experience with large-course redesign, blended or hybrid courses, and/or converting large enrollment courses into online courses.
  • Demonstrated success in the development of instructional multimedia.
  • Proficiency in using multimedia hardware, software, and equipment.
  • Advanced certifications or education beyond the Master’s degree level.
  • Experience in using an array of instructional technologies including hardware and software, multimedia technologies, online tools, and distributed/distance learning techniques.
