Instructional Design Specialist for STEM Gateway Learning Center

Plans and coordinates activities for students majoring in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. This includes developing and coordinating a summer bridge program for a diverse group of students in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) departments. This summer bridge occurs before the beginning of the fall academic semester and will include an academic course introduction as well as an introduction to the support structures within Ohio State. The individual will provide networking and academic support programming throughout the academic year. The Specialist will supervise student peer tutors. They will interact often with the students majoring in STEM departments to facilitate the students becoming comfortable in the academic environment. The Specialist manages hiring and training process of all new peer student employees; provides student peer tutors with ongoing professional development and training. This includes career development programing as well as STEM outreach opportunities. The individual in the position works with faculty and staff in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Mathematics and Physics to design and implement student support programming that is effective in supporting the majors. The person keeps extensive records on the participation of the majors in programming. The person also coordinates their programming with programming in department and in the STEM Gateway learning center. The individual does formal assessment on the quality and impact of the provided programming and continues to enhance the programming based on the results. Assists the Associate Director of the STEM Gateway Learning Center in programming within the center and assessment of the center’s programming.

Required: Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Math, STEM Education or equivalent education and experience. Two years of relevant experience in a student support position or an advising program. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; excellent written and oral communication skills; enthusiasm for science and ability to interact with people.

Desire: Master's degree in a Science, Math, STEM Education or equivalent education and experience. Experience or background in science or science education strongly desired.

The pay range for this job profile is $53,800 - $71,700. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
