The Auraria Library is located on the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver, Colorado and is administered by the University of Colorado Denver. The Library serves 45,000 students from three institutions of higher education on the Auraria Campus – University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Community College of Denver. The Library welcomes over 900,000 visitors each year.

Overview

The Instruction Program Lead Librarian is charged with engaging the Teaching and Learning Department in forward-thinking pedagogical approaches, techniques, and best practices for information literacy instruction and student learning, including initiatives and day-to-day operations. This work includes leading a cross-departmental team responsible for delivery of the library’s instruction program. The Teaching and Learning Program Lead Librarian provides programmatic direction for all teaching and instructional activities across modalities including face-to-face instruction and workshops and online education. This position leads the library’s work in the areas of digital pedagogy and instructional design. In consultation with other Program Leads, this position liaises with faculty development centers and digital education offices as appropriate, including participating in their initiatives to solidify the library’s role as exemplary campus educators. Communication, both to the department and to external constituents, is a fundamental part of the position.

As a faculty member, the incumbent will be expected to participate on Library and campus-wide committees.  The librarian will be engaged in fulfilling the research and educational missions of the Auraria Library and the three institutions on the Auraria Campus – the University of Colorado Denver, the Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the Community College of Denver. This position is in the Education and Public Services Division of the Library and reports to the Teaching and Learning, Department Head.

Job Duties (* indicates unique responsibilities as a Program Lead) 

Leadership in Instruction

·         *Leads development of a programmatic approach to information literacy instruction.

·         *Leads a cross-departmental team responsible for library instruction efforts that support the academic courses and programs on the Auraria Campus.

·         *Leads development of digital learning objects and communicates with campus partners to integrate these resources into the three campus learning management systems.

·         *Manages logistical processes related to instruction including evaluating instruction requests, scheduling in-person classes, managing online instruction requests, booking library classrooms, and statistical analysis and reporting.

·         *Communicates classroom reservation/use guidelines to internal and external requestors

·         *Actively promotes an environment of continual improvement by leading, planning, and implementing ongoing learning, information sharing, and professional development opportunities related to teaching and online education including theory, pedagogy, best practices, and available resources. 

·         *Leads efforts to develop and support library instruction to online and remote students by engaging with the library instruction team, campus academic programs, and campus support offices/services. 

Instruction

·         Facilitates one-time instruction sessions (face-to-face and online) in a broad range of disciplines to undergraduate and graduate students.

·         With the aim of creating inclusive learning experiences, designs and implements curriculum and corresponding assessments.

·         Liaises with select target populations, student support services and/or community groups to develop and deliver instruction-related services and initiatives.

Assessment

·         *Builds programmatic student learning assessments for library instruction for both undergraduate and graduate programs, including face-to-face and virtual modes of delivery.

·         *Responsible for ongoing assessment of the instruction program and the development of new strategies based on this work.  

Other

·         *As one of two program lead positions in the department, collaborates to manage departmental projects.

·         *Communicates with clarity and transparency to internal and external stakeholders.

·         *Serves on/collaborates with instructional support and digital education offices regarding instruction and student learning assessment to support the teaching mission of the three institutions.

·         Collaborates with other library units and teams to develop services as needed.

·         Other duties as assigned.

·         Participates on Library and campus-wide committees and CU Denver faculty governance.

 

Qualifications

 

Instructor

Minimum Qualifications

·         Master’s degree in Library or Information Science, or equivalent degree.

·         2+ years of experience providing information literacy instruction to an undergraduate population.

·         2+ years of experience in Tri-Institutional environment

·         Demonstrated competence and sensitivity in working with individuals who are highly diverse in many facets of identity.

Preferred Qualifications

·         Experience leading an instruction program in an academic or research library.

·         Experience providing multimodal information literacy instruction.

·         Supervisory experience in an academic or research library.

Senior Instructor

Minimum Qualifications

·         Master’s degree in Library or Information Science, or equivalent degree.

·         At least 48 months of applicable experience of which at least and 24 of those months must be at Auraria Library

·         2+ years of experience in Tri-Institutional environment

·         2+ years of experience providing information literacy instruction to an undergraduate population.

·         Demonstrated competence and sensitivity in working with individuals who are highly diverse in many facets of identity.

Preferred Qualifications

·         Experience leading an instruction program in an academic or research library.

·         Experience providing multimodal information literacy instruction.

·         Supervisory experience in an academic or research library.

Salary and Benefits:

·         The salary range (or hiring range ) for Senior Instructor has been established at $70,000-$75,000/year

·         The salary range (or hiring range ) for Instructor has been established at $60,000-$65,000/year

·         The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

·         The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

·         This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
