Institutional Review Board Administrator - (240000EF)

The Human Research Protections Office (HRPO) is recruiting for a Institutional Review Board Administrator. The HRPO is the coordinating office for the Human Research Protections Program, and provides support for the UMB Institutional Review Board (IRB). The IRB Administrator provides technical and administrative review of human research application materials prior to submission to the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Provides support and guidance to investigators from initial proposal review and submission through completion of the study. Coordinates submission and revisions with the Board.

Primary Duties

  • Determine the regulatory review pathway for incoming applications submitted for IRB review and assign them to HRPO/IRB staff accordingly.
  • Provide technical and administrative guidance on human research application materials prior to submission to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) Committee.
  • Provide IRB support and guidance to investigators from initial proposal submission and review through study completion.
  • Perform pre-committee regulatory analysis of human research application materials; review for completeness and compliance with human research regulations and institutional requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of human subject protection regulations and institutional policies to administer IRB meetings, determine IRB requirements of approval are met, and issue approval documentation or other appropriate documentation.
  • Collaborate with IRB staff on developing the IRB meeting agenda and designating IRB reviewers.
  • Coordinate proposal submission and revisions with the IRB Committee.
  • Attend IRB Committee meetings and write detailed meeting summaries regarding ethical and regulatory issues analyzed by the committee and document the final determinations of the IRB.
  • Review IRB meeting minutes for accuracy and completeness.
  • Assist in writing clear and detailed IRB correspondence to investigators.
  • Maintain clear and accurate IRB files.
  • Ensure ethical issues are addressed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education: Bachelors in a related field.
Experience: Three (3) years of experience working in research administration, including use of human subjects. One (1) year experience with regulatory operations and administration governing use of human subjects preferred.
Certification/Licensure: Certified IRB professional preferred.

The Hiring Range for this position is in the high $60,000s to mid $70,000s, commensurate with education and experience.
