The office of Institutional Research reports to the Executive Vice Chancellor. The mission of Institutional Research is to facilitate data-informed decision-making through actionable research & analytics. Institutional Research enhances and fosters the effectiveness of UC San Diego by providing institutional research, analyses, and data that supports and strengthens the operation, decision making, policy formulation, and planning processes for faculty and staff at all levels of the organization.

Under the supervision of the Director, Equity Research & Analytics and in collaboration with campus partners, the Institutional Research Analyst 3 plays a key role in developing and supporting a variety of high-level institutional research functions to advance the business goals and objectives of the campus-wide "Erasing Equity Gaps via Collective Impact Initiative", and other assigned areas of support. The incumbent will work closely and collaboratively with a variety of campus constituents, including the Collective Impact Backbone, and actively participate in meetings, work groups, committees, and similar activities to advance the programs, services, and activities of all designated areas.

This position is responsible for researching, extracting, compiling, analyzing, reporting and presenting institutional data and analysis from various internal and external information systems and sources for campus constituents, Office of the President, State and Federal agencies, and accreditation agencies. This work includes developing statistical findings, interpreting data results, creating reports, and making recommendations as they relate to a wide variety of areas, including but not limited to: equity, diversity and inclusion analyses, resource allocation, faculty merit reviews, instructional workload, institutional planning, policy formulation, program evaluation, campus accreditation, enrollment planning, policy analysis, workforce and population studies and projections, strategic planning and campus decision making.

The incumbent will work as a liaison between the unit, ITS, and other campus units to assist in local data integrations to campus data systems. Designs, develops, organizes, and maintains the Institutional Research (IR) website; designs and produces web-ready texts, graphics, forms, data and report infographics, visualizations, dashboards.

  • Experience in formulating and recommending plans, programs, and policies that may have campus wide impact, based on quantitative and qualitative research.

  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies (e.g., longitudinal analysis and analysis of survey data.) Proficiency in organizing and reporting data with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Requires general knowledge in data collection and analysis techniques; statistics or social science research techniques; knowledge of common organization-specific computer application programs; knowledge of organizational principles and procedures involved in handling sensitive data (for example, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA).

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in data management computer applications, query tools (e.g., SQL)and relational databases in order to extract data from existing systems and restructure data in a manner that allows for robust analysis and information.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize statistical software (SPSS/SAS/STATA or equivalent) in order to analyze complex and diverse computer generated data.

  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in organizing, researching, and writing institutional research reports for campus wide constituency, including definition of issues and/or problems, results of statistical analyses, and communications to academic and administrative management.

  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

  • Duties may require direct contact and/or supervision of children (defined as individuals under the age of 18); completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) form will be required.


Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $74,300 - $134,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $35.58 - $64.42

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
