Center Director for Practice Transformation


Position Summary

Michigan State University College of Nursing seeks an inaugural Center Director for Practice Transformation. In this role, this individual will work in close collaboration with clinical partner leaders, and will assist in the development, management, and oversight of multiple Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) and Quality Improvement (QI) and teams. Additionally, the Center Director will collaborate with chief nursing officers, nurse leaders, and appropriate councils to strategically plan and align nursing EBP and QI initiatives with the organization's broader strategic directions and goals to support backgrounds and perspectives different from our own.  Reporting to the Dean of the College of Nursing, the Center Director will:

  • Identify and become a collaborative member of multiple transdisciplinary teams to apply synthesized evidence and QI processes resulting in clinical practice changes which will achieve institutional goals and improve health equity of all individuals, groups, and populations
  • Provide a systems-level approach to assist clinical organizations achieve their goals (i.e., Magnet Status, increasing quality productivity) by operationalizing and making efficiencies in the oversight of multiple project teams
  • Define quarterly and annual objectives and key results which will provide inclusive strategic and tactical education, leadership, and guidance to cross-functional teams
  • Collaboratively develop project roadmaps that organize teams toward successful practice transformations and peak program performance indicative of inclusive excellence.
  • Use experience, observation, and organizational collaborations to identify strategic center growth opportunities, and opportunities to drive quality-focused program management and practice transformation efforts externally 
  • Mentor others and lead educational initiatives regarding decision making via EBP and QI processes
  • Operationalize and manage internal evidence through outcomes management, regarding EBP and QI implementation projects for the purpose of identifying strategic approaches to successfully guiding such projects
  • Conduct site visits to clinical organizations to facilitate EBP and QI practice transformation and workflow enablement
  • Provide leadership and mentor others to review and measure processes and outcomes of evidence-based practice projects and its alignment with clinical decision making
  • Formulate policies, procedures, and best practices for the strategic implementation and sustaining of EBP and QI cultures 
  • Disseminate outcomes with collaborative stakeholders (i.e., individuals, partners, groups, colleagues, and clinical partner leaders)

Required Degree

Doctorate -Nursing or related field


Minimum Requirements
  • PhD or DNP in Nursing or related field
  • Demonstrated strong leadership qualities and skills appropriate to a senior management position including inclusive excellence in management, development, and motivation of both interdisciplinary teams and individuals to inspire peak and dedicated performance
  • Experience in the initiation of Change Management strategies (i.e., Plan, Do, Study, Act approach to small changes)
  • Experience and working knowledge EBP and QI strategies (i.e., Lean Six Sigma Processes, ability to find and synthesize contemporary evidence)
  • Significant experience completing and overseeing EBP and QI projects
  • Evidence of deep engagement or collaboration in partnerships with locate, state, and/or national health agencies
  • Unrestricted RN license without probationary status (or eligible)
  • Clinical background as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, presentation, and public speaking skills
