Job Summary

The Inspector will serve as field extension of the administrative and compliance assistance arm of the Office of Indiana State Chemist (OISC).  In this role, you will effectively communicate and enforce the laws, rules, and policies of the agency, inspecting facilities, reviewing records, collecting samples, collecting and documenting evidence, issuing regulatory orders, and completing necessary reports for the agency's administrative and laboratory programs.

 

The Inspector for this position will cover the following counties: Lake, Porter, LaPorte, St. Joseph, Elkhart, Newton, Jasper, Pulaski, Fulton, Starke, and Marshall.


What You'll Be Doing:
  • Inspect manufacturing and distribution facilities for compliance with laws, rules, and regulations
  • Collect and document official samples of products distributed in Indiana
  • Review product labeling for adequacy, safety, and effective use by the consumer
  • Determine licensing or registration status of products or firms operating in Indiana
  • Investigate consumer complaints against a specific product or company
  • Perform directed and evidence-gathering inspections as instructed by the agency
  • Review records to determine compliance with required recordkeeping practices
  • Issue and follow through on regulatory actions such as violation notices, warnings, stop sale or removal from use orders
  • Perform cooperative or joint inspections, or as an agent for federal agencies (i.e. Dept. of Health and Human Services, Food and Drug Administration or US Dept. of Agriculture)

What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Agriculture field
  • 2 years of experience in agriculture or farming
  • Knowledge of regulated industries
  • Ability to read and comprehend laws and regulations and interpret their applicability
  • Basic computer skills and good communication skills Individual
  • Valid U.S. or Canadian driver's license (may be subject to motor vehicle records check)
  • Travel
