The Studio Manager serves as the operational lead of the Innovation Studio Makerspaces, (the moveable Innovation Studio and Heminger Hall location). The moveable Innovation Studio is a mobile collaborative workspace that travels to various locations throughout the year to foster inter-professional creation of healthcare solutions. The Innovation Studio - Heminger Hall is a large, permanent location that follows the same guidelines but with a larger variety of equipment that enhances its capabilities of prototyping. The Studio Manager works with students, faculty, and staff to assist with idea incubation and concept maturation; assists host colleges and medical centers, in identifying channels for interprofessional collaboration and innovations that will benefit from further maturation; assists with developing the innovation eco-system in the community; works with university faculty and community experts to evaluate, advise, and mentor the real world healthcare solutions created by these innovators; identifies potential interprofessional projects for funding from the Innovation Studio; may require some late evening and weekend hours to plan exhibits; other duties as assigned. 

 
The Studio Manager will develop and lead prototyping exercises to promote creativity and activity inside the space; ensure both locations operate at a high standard throughout the year as approved by the Director of the Center of Healthcare Innovation and Leadership; foster a spirit of inquiry within all engaged parties; reframe project failures as learning opportunities; model exceptional informal learning teaching principles; maintain the budget for studio operations; operate the studio according to safety standards, space/sound limitations, and facility requirements; be responsible for ordering and stocking consumables as well as supplies for studio projects; create a workplace environment in which student workers, as well as clients feel safe, valued, and excited to learn about creative thinking, low fidelity prototyping, and manufacturing practices; manage 3-6 part time student workers, create work schedules, assign workload, and foster 'client-student worker' relationships; work with clients to build commercializable, scalable and manufacturable physical products; utilize multiple forms of equipment from traditional hand tools, to CNC routers, 3D printers, laser cutters, mills, lathes etc.; maintain equipment in both locations; utilize time wisely between both studios in a manner which supports healthy workflow in both spaces; work hand in hand with the studio team to bring conceptual healthcare ideas to reality by utilizing all of the Interprofessional Core Competencies; manage both studios in a way that compliments each’s differences while still maintaining the same overarching goals; and create reports that demonstrate the high level of activity in the studios including regular programming for the College of Nursing as well as the University Community.

Minimum Education Required, degree level and focus area (based on Career Band and Level Guide):  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; advanced degree in relevant field may be desirable

Minimum Years of Experience Required (based on Career Band and Level Guide): 4 years of relevant experience required; 4-8 years of experience preferred

Desired Qualifications: Previous maker experience or degree in technology, product design, or an appropriate field; considerable knowledge of technology or innovation methods, materials, and equipment; experience in the design and fabrication of prototypes. Masters degree in technology, product design, or an appropriate field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; excellent interpersonal skills; previous track record of communication and marketing of events; previous experience in coordination of events; ability to work as a team and independently.
