The Office of Visitor Relations is looking for committed and enthusiastic Cornellians to help welcome prospective students, parents, alumni, and area visitors to the Ithaca campus. Our staff greet visitors and answer every question one might have about Cornell!

    

Purpose of the position

If you are interested in being a part of the team or want to learn more about the Visitor Relations Information Specialist/Tour Guide position, our current staff will be hosting Information Sessions on the following dates:

Thursday, April 18th at 5:00pm – Goldwin Smith Hall 142

Monday, April 22nd at 5:00pm - Goldwin Smith Hall 142

Duties and responsibilities

Visitor Relations serves as the primary source of information and visitor services for Cornell University students, faculty, staff, and general visitors. While most people are aware that our student Information Specialists provide campus tours, there are more aspects to the job! Our responsibilities include:

Campus Tours

We conduct general campus, historical, and bus tours, as well as tours for admitted students, and a variety of special group tours.

University Switchboard

Visitor Relations answers all calls at the university's general information line (607-254-INFO). We staff our call center Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm, and on select Saturdays from 8am to 3pm.

Information Desk

Visitor Relations staff greet prospective students, families, and thousands of Ithaca area visitors at the information desk of the Martin Y. Tang Welcome Center. We provide reliable information about Cornell University to campus community members and visitors.

Knowledge/Experience required

Excellent communication skills
Experience in a customer service-oriented environment
Understanding of diplomacy and creative problem solving
Ability to represent Cornell and its mission from an undergraduate perspective
Ability to work with accountability without direct supervision
Availability to work 20-40 hours/week for a minimum of 7 weeks between May 28 and August 23 (the weeks do not have to be consecutive)
