Position Summary
The Informaticist Pharmacy serves as a clinical pharmacy and informatics support staff for oncology pharmacists, physicians, physician extenders, and nursing staff to support safety and quality around BJC medication value chain activities by utilizing BJC's instance of Epic, Epic Willow, Epic Beacon, and EHR adjacent applications. Required to obtain Epic certifications (s) within six months of hire/transfer date of within six weeks of last Epic class completion, whichever is sooner. On-call applies to this position.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Apply current clinical practice and evidence-based medicine to contribute to design of safe medication delivery and patient outcomes. Participate on key multidisciplinary committees and provide leadership with strategies around the development and integration of pharmaceutical care activities using information technology.
  • Participate in workflow analysis to identify and resolve system issues utilizing system knowledge and troubleshooting techniques to provide suggested solutions or workflow re-designs to identified system problems. Assess medication-use systems for vulnerabilities to medication errors and proactively implement strategies to prevent these errors.
  • Build, test, implement, and support/maintain master drug files (e.g. ERX records) and CDS tools (e.g. Rules, alerts, order sets, preference lists, treatment guidelines/plans, etc.) utilized throughout EHR and CPOE systems to ensure continued scientific and clinical relevance and appropriateness, making modifications to them as necessary. Part of this process is to create content management tickets, migrate build between environments, attend technical change management calls, discuss proposed changes to production, and ensure customer/end-user approves/accepts proposed build.
  • Use ticket management system (e.g. ServiceNow) to communicate with customers and close tickets as assigned within service level agreements. Complete tickets and optimization requests in order of priority set by governance and management. Contact end-users, explain features of and changes to the EHR and make recommendations (both orally and written) based on the end-users circumstances and clinical relevance.
  • Assist in monthly and semi-annual data loads from vendors, quarterly upgrades from EHR vendor, mining, collating, analyzing, and interpreting of data from these systems to improve patient outcomes. Support successful charge and revenue generation for drug master files.

  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is essential of this job.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Epic experience and certification.
  • Experience working in an oncology infusion pharmacy.
  • General knowledge of University and Medical School culture and practices.
  • Abilities to understand and make recommendations on effective IT and business practices.
  • Effective technical analysis skills and experience.
  • Effective verbal written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with confidential information.
  • Demonstrated effective Microsoft office suite skills.


Required Qualifications

  • PhD Pharmacy.
  • Two to five years of experience.

Salary Range
$98,700.00 - $177,600.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
