To teach Intensive English Institute classes to Multilingual learners. Prepare students for academic and practical English skills necessary to succeed as matriculated students in the University of Maine or achieve other academic or career goals for which English language skills are required. This position is based in Portland, ME with occasional travel to Orono, ME as needed. Typical hiring range for this two-year, fixed-length position is $38,701 to $55,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or a closely related field such as Education, Literacy, or Linguistics, from an accredited institution is required.
  • Experience studying, working, or teaching abroad.
  • Demonstrated strong intercultural communication skills.
  • Demonstrated flexibility, teaching skills, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Strong commitment to diversity and equity work to support department and university efforts to create a just, equitable and inclusive campus community.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and treat confidential matters with tact and discretion.
  • Excellent computer skills, social media knowledge, and demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to travel locally, requiring a valid driver's license.

Preferred:

  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Online and Hybrid/Blended Learning teaching experience.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems.
  • Experience working and communicating with multilingual learners.
  • Experience working with immigrants (refugees, asylum seekers, etc.) in the U.S.
  • Proficiency in a foreign language (other than English).
