Position Summary
To provide complex and detailed administrative oversight conducted under the jurisdiction of the UNMC Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC). The position provides leadership in organizing and developing a service-oriented office by establishing project strategies, addressing and resolving risks, and maintaining priorities to support the efficient processing of research proposals submitted by UNMC investigators. Oversight includes determining IACUC review requirements, semiannual inspections, timely continuing review (CR) notifications, monitoring expiration of research, maintaining the IACUC website, development, training, and implementation of the online submissions on the Research Support System (RSS), as well as general office duties. The position also initiates administrative actions to ensure all research involving animals complies with multiple applicable regulations including the Animal Welfare Act, Public Health Service Policy, AAALAC International accreditation standards, the Guide, USDA requirements, and Institutional guidelines and policies. Continually monitors and interprets legislation, regulations, policies, and current events to maintain knowledge on all animal research regulations, guidelines, and policies ensuring that changes are communicated to appropriate persons (e.g. investigators, research staff, IACUC Executive Chair, Chair, Director of Comparative Medicine/Office of Animal Care and Use, IACUC members, institutional safety/compliance offices, sponsored program administration) as well as ensure that all such changes are integrated into institutional procedures and policies.
