Scope of Job | To provide guidance to high school students with college exploration, establishing college plans and assisting in areas including but not limited to admissions, financial aid, and registration. To plan, implement, and evaluate intentional services to meet program goals and objectives intended to promote post-secondary access and success. |

Licenses/Certifications | Preferred: As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s). |
Required Experience | Service experience with first-generation college students and/or students from underserved backgrounds, such as in college admissions or advising, mentoring, customer service, or higher education. Successful applicant must be a near-peer to the high school students served. At the time employment begins, an adviser must have graduated from high school within the past six years. |
Preferred Experience | Experience working with first-generation college students and/or students from underserved backgrounds, such as in college admissions or other advising or mentoring programs. Experience within Enrollment Services, i.e., Financial Aid, Registrar, Admissions, Recruiting, or related field. |
Equipment | Familiar with various communications platforms and web technology. Use of standard office equipment. |
Working Conditions | Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; frequent travel through South Texas; evening and weekend work may be required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment across the Rio Grande Valley. *Expected to travel to High Schools located in Hidalgo, Starr, Brooks, and Wells county. |
Other | Strong interpersonal and communication skills including excellent organizational and public speaking skills. Ability to respond effectively in a variety of situations, multi-task, and to interact effectively with diverse and multi-cultural audiences. Must work effectively and independently in team situations and be detail oriented. |
