Purpose

As a member of the Cockrell School of Engineering’s Human Resources team, provides advanced professional human resources support to the Texas Institute for Electronics (TIE).  


Responsibilities

  • Works closely with the HR Director and staff within the Texas Institute for Electronics to provide proactive, high quality and timely human resources support.

  • Supports high volume technical recruiting, to include developing position descriptions, creating job postings, placing external advertisements, and sourcing applicants.

  • Coordinates hires, manages onboarding for new employees, facilitates small group orientation sessions, and provides support to new employees to ensure a positive transition.

  • Processes and maintains a variety of employee assignments, ensuring compliance with university policy.  Works with TIE management to coordinate employee compensation changes.  Coordinate employee separations.

  • Assists staff with understanding proper timekeeping practices, manages access to electronic time sheets, and works with staff and supervisors to make adjustments to leave balances as needed. Monitors timekeeping reports to ensure staff time sheets are completed in a timely manner and sends reminder notices to staff as needed.

  • Processes payments, to include relocation payments and recurring overtime payments to non-exempt staff.

  • Compiles and disseminates a variety of reports to management, including hiring and compensation data as well as recruiting data.

  • Helps coordinate training programs, including compliance training and workplace safety training.  Responsible for special projects as assigned. Coordinates workplace injury reports as needed.

  • Provides backup support to other team members and performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.

  • Two years of professional experience in human resources.

  • Excellent understanding of various laws and best practices related to human resources and ability to apply that knowledge to problem solve complex issues.

  • Ability to effectively manage a high volume of work assignments under dynamic circumstances.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to create strong partnerships staff members at all levels of the organization.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to manage projects, improve processes and lead projects to completion.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and applications in the Microsoft Office suite.

  • Experience working with confidential information and providing support to customers using discretion.

  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Human Resources certification or specialized training related to Human Resources.

  • Experience performing human resources work in an academic, research, or technical environment.

  • Experience with active recruitment, particularly technical recruiting.

  • Excellent working knowledge of university policies and administrative tools such as Workday and DEFINE.


Salary Range

$55,000 + depending on qualifications


Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in an office environment with shared work spaces.

  • Primary work location is on the UT Austin main campus, but will include regular participation in meetings at the Pickle Research Campus in North Austin.

  • Repetitive use of keyboard at workstation.

  • Prolonged screen time.

  • Flexible schedules and/or hybrid telework is allowed. 

  • Periodic work outside of normal business hours, to include evenings and weekends, may be required on a periodic basis during peak periods.

Employment Eligibility:
