The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) is the foundation of a liberal arts education at Stanford. The school encompasses 23 departments and 25 interdisciplinary programs. The Program in Human Biology is a large and diverse interdepartmental undergraduate major.  The program’s mission is to provide an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the human being from biological, behavioral, social, and cultural perspectives.  Each Human Biology student designs an individualized course of study focused on an area of interest within the broad scope of the program.  Students also have the opportunity to pursue research or other creative projects within the major.

Position Summary:

The Program in Human Biology is seeking a Course Support Coordinator. The Course Support Coordinator will work under general supervision of the Administrative Director and must possess and demonstrate a positive outlook on continuous process improvement efforts while maintaining a team-based and customer-focused mindset. It is critical that this position exhibit the abilities to practice sound judgment and decision-making, effective written & oral communication, strong attention to detail and respectful relationship management. This position must also exhibit a strong desire to continuously learn new and unfamiliar business topics, policies and procedures as they relate to Student Services – the ability to translate this information into operational successes will be critical. 

The Human Biology Course Support Coordinator will provide oversight for the program’s academic course scheduling and will support instructors and teaching assistants.  This involves collecting, inputting and reviewing course information; analyzing all program courses within the university curriculum management systems and making recommendations; and updating the bulletin information in coordination with program team members annually.  The Course Support Coordinator will communicate with other staff, instructors, and teaching assistants within the program and across the university to coordinate course schedules and to manage room assignments.  They will be expected to administer and implement university and department policies and procedures concerning curriculum management.  This position also serves as a primary support for the program’s curriculum committee which meets quarterly

This is a 100% FTE, non-exempt position. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need.

CORE DUTIES:

  • Review documents and forms for completeness, track files for follow up and distribute for review.
  • Process day to day transactions.
  • Collect, gather and validate data, prepare basic reports.
  • Input data, update electronic databases, web sites, literature, and associated materials.
  • Coordinate logistics for meetings, and events.
  • Research and resolve routine issues, refer complex issues to other staff.
  • Coordinate and perform administrative operations.
  • Contribute to general office administration and process improvements.
  • Respond to inquiries from faculty, external constituents, and staff.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource to faculty, staff, students and other departments.
  • May train and direct day to day activities of student and temporary workers.

* Other duties may also be assigned.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor Degree Preferred.  Two year college degree and one year of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.  Familiarity with Stanford and Human Biology is a plus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite within Google Drive.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Basic office administration skills.
  • Ability to learn compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates the ability to work well with Stanford colleagues and clients and with external organizations.

The expected pay range for this position is $29.81 to $36.54 per hour.
