Position Summary

A cell biology laboratory seeks a motivated HSC Research Tech 2 to become a productive member of a small research group.  The laboratory applies modern molecular and cellular biology approaches to the study of cell communication within both stem cell and tumor cell microenvironments.  Animal handling skills are required for this position. The successful applicant must perform experiments with animals and maintain the associated mouse colonies.  In addition, strong organizational skills are a must. Techniques to be used will include flow cytometry, RT-PCR, immunoblotting, microscopy, and cell culture. The candidate must be accurate, highly motivated, and able to work well with others in a goal-oriented, laboratory research environment.

The Health Sciences Research Tech 2 performs standard research protocols, under detailed and controlled research parameters, in a health sciences laboratory setting. This position conducts a variety of standardized tests and procedures, prepares data, samples and/or specimens, sets up and operates standard laboratory equipment of standard complexity, verifies and records data, and performs preliminary manipulation of experiment and/or test results, providing basic data analyses, summaries and interpretations.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible position.

Conditions of Employment
  • For individual positions in which driving is a job requirement, a valid NM driver's license and valid UNM driver's permit will be required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Annual TB testing may be required if working in a patient care area.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry or a related field, and will have:
  • Previous work with animal husbandry, particularly mice, is a must.
  • Experience with biomedical research including western immunoblotting, immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry and RT-PCR
  • Understand biochemical calculations (e.g., molarity) and preparation of solutions
  • Organizational skills
