Job Summary
To participate in Housekeeping maintenance and related work. Responsible for general housekeeping functions in a residence or apartment building, which may include some supervision of housekeeping.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs housekeeping functions in various residences.
  • Dusts, mops, sweeps, spray buffs and wet mops floors and furniture.
  • Vacuums and shampoos items deemed necessary.
  • Sanitizes and cleans restrooms, stoves, refrigerators, washes waste receptacles, windows, vents, radiators and replenishes paper supplies, laundry facilities, showers tubs, bedrooms, dining & kitchen areas.
  • Responsible for cleaning walls, doors/ windows, woodwork, and stairwells.
  • Make residence ready for operation.
  • Detail kitchen appliances and bath fixtures.
  • Operates custodial maintenance equipment including vacuums, buffers/burnishes, scrubbers, Kai-vac’s and extractors.
  • May include hotel type cleaning such as making beds, washing linens & towels, cleaning appliances & dishes.
  • Remove trash, empty fridge, clean under and behind all appliances.
  • Restock all coffee and any and all bathroom supplies.
  • May include make ready cleaning in apartments & residence halls.
  • Assures energy conservation by ensuring all non-necessary lights are turned off (classrooms, offices, etc.).
  • Inspects buildings for cleanliness, needed repairs and completed work orders.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory of custodial equipment materials, supplies and equipment. Responds to on-call emergencies before/during/after normal hours of operation.
  • This includes but not limited to: Fires, electrical outages, floods, icy conditions, and any other type of campus emergency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and others. Special job requirements or physical location of some positions allocated to this classification, may render the position security sensitive, and thereby subject to the provisions of Section 51.215 Texas education Code.
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of experience in custodial work.
  • Knowledge of cleaning agents and chemicals.
  • Ability to perform duties following oral and written instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of housekeeping experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures.
  • Skill in the use of custodial chemicals and the operation of housekeeping equipment.

Other Requirements
Working Conditions
Conditions do involve exposure to all weather elements. Must be able to work off of ladders, scaffolding, and tops/roofs of buildings. Working conditions are considered acceptable, but occasionally involve exposure to one or more disagreeable elements such as biohazards, toxic lab chemicals, poisonous gases dust, dirt. May work in extreme temperatures. May work around chemical fumes. Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished). Must be able to complete all physical tasks as required.
