Position Highlights

The Arizona Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (AzVDL) at the University of Arizona invites applications for a Histotechnologist II. This position is responsible for performing traditional and routine histology techniques. The section sees a diverse workload. The position brings the opportunity to work with our welcoming and inclusive faculty and staff as well as being a part of Research, Innovation & Impact (RII)’s community.

The technician would be responsible for performing histology procedures and tasks, participating in the quality management process and learning a variety of special stains.

The laboratory is one of the original twelve laboratories partnered in the National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) and participates in supporting the Cooperative Extension’s Arizona Livestock Incident Response Team (ALIRT). ALIRT was designed to enhance the diagnosis of unexplained mortality events in livestock.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Accessioning, grossing tissue, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, cover slipping, H & E staining and special stains
  • Participating in keeping standard operating procedures current
  • Preparation and quality control of chemicals & solutions
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Maintenance of slide storage system and other administrative tasks
  • Additional duties may be assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience and 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Histotechnologist certification - HT or HLT
