Histology Technologist - Neurology Clinic

To perform a variety of routine histological procedures related to preparation of tissue for microscopic examination by a pathologist. To perform procedures including embedding, microtomy, staining, and other special techniques needed for diagnosis. May perform high-complexity testing and grossing of specimens.


Position Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Department of Neurology requirements:
Associate’s degree and twenty-four (24) credits of college coursework with emphasis in biology & chemistry, and/or two (2) years of applicable laboratory experience required.

BS degree in biological sciences or Medical Assistant degree preferred. Formal training in an accredited histology technology program leading to an Associate of Science Degree preferred. At least one (1) year of experience working in a clinical anatomic pathology laboratory preferred. Prior experience working with physicians and patients in ambulatory or inpatient settings preferred.

LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR REGISTRATION:
If working in the Department of Neurology: Current histotechnician certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology is preferred but not necessary initially (certification is expected within 3 years of employment at UAB)

Preferred: Advanced HTL certification and experience in a histology specialty lab preferred
