Position Summary
The Department of Health Science, within the College of Human Environmental Sciences, at The University of Alabama seeks candidates to serve as an Instructor of Health Education and Promotion. This is a 9-month, non-tenure track position. The candidate will also serve as the CEPH Director of Assessment and Accreditation for Public Health. Appointments to the faculty of The University of Alabama are based on the personnel requirements of the University’s academic programs and on the goal of achieving and maintaining excellence in its teaching, research, and service/academic citizenship activities.


Detailed Position Information
The selected candidate will be expected to provide professional service to the University, profession, and community, and perform other duties as assigned. The CEPH Director of Assessment and Accreditation will be responsible for collecting data for all CEPH-accredited Public Health programs to develop reports and accreditation materials, as well as collaborating with others across campus. The CEPH Director of Assessment and Accreditation will spearhead all CEPH accreditation activities and roles in collaboration with program faculty as well as the CEPH Designated Leader. The candidate will teach a 2:2 course load consisting of undergraduate courses (face-to-face and/or online) in one or more of the following areas: environmental health, epidemiology, health communication, health education/promotion interventions, program evaluation, health disparities, and community health.


Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must hold an earned master’s degree in health education, health promotion, public health or a closely related field at the time of employment. We seek applicants with teaching experience or demonstrated potential for success in teaching undergraduate courses, with proficiency in one or more of the aforementioned areas. Preference will be given to candidates who have: (a) previous teaching experience, (b) previous health education/public health experience, (c) professional association involvement, (d) a record of community engagement, (e) previous experience with the CEPH accreditation process, and (f) knowledge of higher education assessment or program evaluation. Public health or health education-related certification is desirable (i.e. CPH, CHES®, MCHES®).

The Department of Health Science is comprised of 21 full-time faculty members whose research and teaching interests span a variety of areas that center on improving the health and well-being of individuals, communities, populations, and the environment. The Department is home to over 600 majors enrolled in one of the degree programs in the Department, including the BS in Public Health (concentrations in Health Education and Promotion, and Health Professions); Master of Public Health (concentration in Health Education and Promotion); MA in Health Studies; PhD in Health Education and Promotion; and MS in Athletic Training. The BS in Public Health and the Master of Public Health degrees are accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
