Job Description

Nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Blue Ridge Community College has been equipping students, alumni, and employees with the knowledge and experience to transform themselves, the community, and the world for over 55 years. Its comprehensive program of instruction includes associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates in occupational/technical and college/university transfer programs. Non-credit workforce training and special interest classes for individuals, business, and industry are also offered. The College is a community dedicated to excellence, ethical behavior, empowerment and inclusion and has consistently been recognized by the Chronicle of Higher Education as a Great College to Work For.
BRCC is accepting applications for part time instructors to teach in our heavy equipment operator program. This is a new program specifically focused on helping individuals gain the skills needed to operate heavy equipment used in the construction industry.
Do you have experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes or bulldozers? Are you passionate about helping others learn a new skill? BRCC is looking for someone with professional experience who can share their knowledge with students who may know little to nothing about how to operate heavy equipment. Due to the nature of the industry and the need for individuals to build upon their learning, classes are structured so that students can quickly develop the foundational skill set required to begin working for a company under supervision on actual equipment in the field.
The program involves both classroom instruction and hands-on training with simulation equipment. Working at the direction of the program head, this position will ensure an orderly and professional atmosphere while performing instruction covering safety concepts necessary to operate heavy equipment in addition to the actual operation of the machines using high-end simulators based on Caterpillar controls. Position is part-time with an hourly wage. Position will administer end of course assessments allowing students to earn a nationally recognized credential through the National Center for Construction Education and Research.
Benefits include:

  • Flexibility to work only a few weeks out of each year
  • Teach between one and four classes annually based on student demand and college need
  • Opportunity to become a nationally certified instructor
  • Teach in updated state-of-art labs, using equipment and tools for hands-on learning with our students
  • All class materials, lessons, and supplies are provided for our instructors
  • Receive the full support of our dedicated staff and lab tech assistant to make you and your students successful
