Summary of Job Duties:

The Healthcare Simulation Educator (HSE) is a member of the UAMS Centers for Simulation Education (CSE) team and is a clinical simulation professional whose responsibility is to develop and implement clinical simulation-based education designed to enhance patient safety and quality during healthcare delivery. This position will develop education programs for standardized patients (SPs) for the CSE that includes several key components of medical simulation programs that are delivered by either a healthcare simulation center of facility or institution. These components include educational curriculum, administrative tasks, clinical session preparations, session breakdowns and performing quality assessments of the SPs. This position is tasked with working collaboratively with content experts, course/program leaders and the CSE staff to ensure the principles of the healthcare simulation education experience are delivered accordingly.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, business, education, social sciences, project management or related field plus five (5) years of work experience in medical simulation or any medical education-related field or 

  • Associate’s degree in healthcare, business, education, social sciences, project management or related field plus seven (7) years of work experience in medical simulation or any medical education-related field required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Advanced proficiency with computers (Mac, PC, and mobile devices).

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft software applications including, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Familiarity with database, report, and project management work preferred.

  • Knowledge of SP methodologies and utilization.

  • Ability to interact, communicate, and collaborate with physician and staff simulationists, CSE staff, and other stakeholders on a professional level.

  • Ability to listen emphatically.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, communication skills, and interpersonal skills.

  • Logistical planning and execution.

  • Maintain well-organized current and archive document system.

  • Works well under pressure, sets priorities, makes timely decisions, and demonstrates good judgment in demanding situations.

  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently.

  • Ability to adjust to frequent changes in priorities, project needs, and workflow.

  • Prioritize and maintain the organization of multiple and simultaneous training and event planning and execution.

  • Comfortable with handling medium to large-scale projects.

  • Work and communicate effectively with internal and external individuals from different disciplines and with different levels of training.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in healthcare, business, education, social sciences, project management or related field plus three (3) or more years of work experience in medical simulation or any medical education-related field.


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  •  Recruits, hires and trains standardized patients (SPs) and physical exam teaching instructors for assessment purposes and teaching (with fixed physical findings) for evaluation purposes with preset reliability standards.

  • Administers, supervises, and facilitates the planning, organization, and implementation of assigned instructional activities and examinations.

  • Collaborates with faculty and help develop ways to use standardized patients in simulation to meet curriculum.

  • Compiles and submits payroll information on standardized patients, present at scholarly meetings, maintains accurate records of cases and events.

  • Assists in case and curriculum development.

  • Career Development, that includes acquiring CHSOS certification, attending ASPE conferences and workshops, (in-person and/or virtual), plus other educational learning workshops in relation to Standardized Patient Methodology.

  • Works with CSE staff in scheduling trainings, planning sessions, testing events and assist in tours of prospective and enrolled students, faculty, donors and visitors.

  • Ensures consistency and standardization on central Arkansas campus and NWA campus in all previously stated duties.

  • Keeps executive director current on progress or problems on assigned activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
