Operating Title Health Information Manager
Summary of Position
Maintain electronic health record system at Health & Wellness in accordance with state and federal guidelines, AAAHC accreditation standards, and H&W policies and procedures. Organize, oversee, and protect patient health information including insurance and billing information. Maintain quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security of medical, demographic and financial data. Serve as an essential link between clinicians and students/patients.
This is a part-time non-benefited, year-round position; approximately 16 hours per week.
The position provides flexibility for in-person or hybrid work location with an expectation to be on-site for necessary meetings.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of professional experience in health information systems, or any combination of higher education and experience equivalent to 7 years.
Preferred Qualifications
RHIA Certification and experience in health information systems with a deep understanding of how electronic health record systems function in a modern healthcare facility.

Salary Information
16 hours/week. Hourly rate of $35-$40/hour based on experience.

Responsible for maintaining and securing all written and electronic health/medical records within Health & Wellness.
Responsible for communicating solutions, influencing clinical style practices, behaviors and attitudes towards clinical technology, and reviewing current practices surrounding the EHR.
Implement policy and procedures to support health information management in a digital environment consistent with AAAHC accreditation standards.
Maintain the overall use of the EHR to ensure quality documentation, data collection, privacy and confidentiality as it relates to state and federal law.
Follow guidelines established by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and notify clinicians of deficiencies.
Recommend implementation of new system functionality to further the goals and
objectives of H&W’s clinical and strategic initiatives.
Work with clinical staff to develop, edit, and customize applications for documentation in the EHR including scheduling & questionnaires.
Assist in developing and standardizing template design for optimal use and navigation by clinical staff.
Develop training curriculum and instruct staff in the use of EHR with ongoing training and guidance as needed.
Act as an internal support to end-users with application issues and work towards resolution.
Work with staff clinicians to ensure they are getting records completed within the required timeframe.
Prepare records and reports for committee review as required.
Create and manage new employee set up and permissions in the EHR per their job responsibilities.
Assist in establishing and maintaining procedures for the collection, coding, abstracting, filing and retrieval of medical records.
Manage the release of health information by handling all requests and inquires for
patient information and dispersing that information to various places including customers, students, healthcare providers caregivers, insurance companies, legal entities and other clinical organizations.
Track the releases in the EHR to provide an accounting for disclosure at the patient’s request per federal guidelines (HIPAA).
Consult with the USNH attorney for legal requests that involve subpoenas and court orders.
Serve as a resource for H&W administration and other staff regarding health information issues, rules and regulations and accreditation standards (i.e. HIPAA, AAAHC).
Manage compliance efforts for entrance requirements of first year students.
Monitor immunization compliance to maintain information that will be used to assess the overall health risk to the campus community in the event of an epidemic.
Communicate immunization non-compliance to students and develop reports to apply academic holds to student accounts after deadlines have not been met.
