Texas A&M University's University Health Services is actively seeking a Health Educator to join our team! This is an opportunity to spearhead the creation and execution of dynamic health promotion initiatives for students.

Your role involves crafting and assessing evidence-based strategies, policies, and programs to enhance well-being. From delivering comprehensive health training to leading outreach efforts both on and off campus, you'll be at the forefront of fostering a culture of wellness. Take charge, mentor student staff, interns, and peer educators, and make a tangible impact on campus health!

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to the selected hire’s experience.  

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Public Health, Health Promotion, or applicable field, or equivalent combination of education and experience AND two years of experience in health promotion or related areas.

  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification or the ability to obtain certification within one year of employment

A well-qualified candidate should possess a Master's degree in Health Education, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field, along with certification as a Health Education Specialist (CHES). They should have at least five years of experience in administering comprehensive health education programming and experience in delivering resiliency-focused training to college students, with a strong understanding of resiliency programming and education for college students, particularly geared towards ROTC and/or Corps of Cadet students.

Responsibilities

Outreach, Teaching, and Consultation

  • Provides trainings on resiliency, suicide prevention, and other mental health topics to large student audiences

  • Serves as a campus resource for timely, current, and relevant health information as it relates to college health.

  • Works closely with administrators and other key stakeholders supporting college students

  • Maintains collaborative relationships with student leaders, campus faculty, staff, and community partners.

Program Development

  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to health for students. Develops strategic plans, goals, and measurable objectives for health promotion programs and services

  • Develops program content, learning resources, and evaluation tools for specific educational interventions based upon needs assessment results. Trains and monitors peer educators regarding health information.

  • Develops, implements, and analyzes periodic student health surveys which provide baseline and follow up health data that identifies program needs and priorities.

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of programs and services and tracks trends in student health statuses and behaviors.

Supervision

  • Serves as advisor to peer educators. Prepares and reviews education materials.

  • Works with a team of health educators to hire, train, manage, supervise, and evaluate volunteer student staff peer educators.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
