Job Summary:

The Linda Crnic Institute for Down Syndrome is seeking applicants for a full-time Health Data Informatics Researcher to participate in the scientific management of the Data Coordinating Center for the National Institutes of Health INCLUDE (INvestigation of Co-occurring conditions across the Lifespan to Understand Down syndromE) Project. The Health Data Informatics Researcher will participate in the scientific management of the INCLUDE Data Coordinating Center (DCC, www.includedcc.org) through its Administrative and Outreach Core, which is led by the Crnic Institute.

The mission of the INCLUDE DCC is to accelerate the pace of discoveries benefiting people with Down syndrome by facilitating access to and analysis of multidimensional datasets generated by cohort studies of individuals with Down syndrome. These datasets are shared through the INCLUDE Data Hub, an online resource that enables rapid data identification and analysis. This position will require experience in working with clinical data, biospecimen data, and/or multi-omics datasets. The Health Data Informatics Researcher will join a multidisciplinary team in a highly collaborative environment to assist with the design and development of novel approaches for global data sharing and analysis.  The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, an independent and critical thinker, a team player and able to multitask in an interactive setting.

Successful applicants will be responsible for performing rigorous curation, analysis, and integration of multiple -omics datasets in collaboration with other scientists on the team. Successful candidates will have substantial computational and analytical skills and a demonstrated ability to perform the tasks outlined below.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop pipelines for processing and quality control of clinical, molecular, and imaging data.
  • Develop and maintain progress reporting for ingest and curation progress tracking.
  • Work with researchers on data formatting and upload.
  • Track information and status of incoming data sets.
  • Serve as point of contact for data-related questions from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implement and operate data ingress, including data validation and quality control.
  • Develop and maintain ingestion pathways for the collection, harmonization, and aggregation of clinical, biospecimen, and –omics data.
  • Manage end-to-end workflows for data processing and deployment of INCLUDE data to Data Portal Core and other endpoints, including high-level cloud architecture requirements and flows determined for INCLUDE data management, processing, and dissemination.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs and data tooling established for INCLUDE data model implementation workflow.
  • Work with PIs on short and long-term planning.
  • Compiles documentation and reports.
  • Manage working group.
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external team members.

Work Location:

Remote – this role is eligible to work remotely, but the employee must be in the United States.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or directly related field from an accredited institution.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the master’s degree on a year for year basis.
  • Three (3) years of experience analyzing data using high-performance computing.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field is highly preferred.
  • Experience with large scale data curation and management.
  • Experience running and troubleshooting jobs in high performance and/or cloud computing environments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches.
  • Demonstrated fluency in one or more programming languages (e.g., R, Python, Perl, Java, C++) and willingness to learn new programming languages as necessary.
  • Competency with Unix/Linux-based command line tools and shell scripting. Familiarity with principles of reproducible data analysis and good coding practice, including version control.
  • Advanced statistical knowledge as applied to bioinformatics / genomics.
  • Advanced statistical knowledge as applied to clinical trial design and analysis.
  • Strong programming skills in common languages/packages used for bioinformatic and statistical analysis, especially R/Bioconductor/Tidyverse and/or Python.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical principles relevant to biomedical research.
  • Proven ability to contribute to publication of scientific manuscripts.
  • Familiarity with principles of reproducible data analysis and good coding practice, including version control.
  • Familiarity with statistical analytical concepts and method
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches.

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, ability to manage multiple projects and analysis requests.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as evidenced by publications and/or presentations.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $87,839 - $111,731.

    The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
