Head Coach- Cross Country

Directs, manages and leads a specific athletic program(s) developing and recommending strategic plans focused on creating and maintaining a culture that facilitates commendable sportsmanship, the personal, academic, and athletic development of both the individual student-athlete and the team, while ensuring adherance to the highest safety and professional standards, ethical behavior, and in accordance with all HU Athletic Department, Ohio Athletics Conference, and NCAA and Title IX standards, rules, and regulations.  

Oversees and directs administrative activities associated with a specific athletic program(s) ensuring adherance to all necessary, approproate, and required maintenance and reporting rules and regulations.

Determines and presents athletic program(s) fiscal requirements, analyzes budget, and recommends changes to increase efficiency, lower costs and maximize performance.

Manages, verifies, approves, and reconciles expenditures of budgeted funds in accordance with Department policy and procedures.

Directs the acquisition, analysis, preparation, and presentation of statistical and tactical data regarding opponent teams.

Acts as Game Manager for other sports' teams as assigned.

Oversees and ensures that appropriate traning, workout, conditioning, and pratice sessions and facilities are developed, scheduled, and maintained for individual student-athletes and entire teams both on and off season.

Reviews, analyzes, determines, and oversees the implementation of changes and enhancements to training, workout, and practice sessions, techniques, equipment and facilities designed to improve student and team performance while emphasizing safety.

Oversees the teaching of the mechanics and techniques associated with the physical and mental aspects of the athletic program and promotes the student-athletes thoughtful use of available strategies and tactics.

Oversees the evaluation of student-athlete training and performance and determines changes to improve performance.

Creates a strategic plan in regard to and manages the recruitment of student-athletes, collaborating with Admissions and assigning geographic areas for recruitment to staff. 

Delegates recruitment and strategic priorities to assistant coaches and or graduate assistant(s) where possible                                          Provides training and feedback for staff in recruitment best practices to develop them as coaches   

Creates an environment and program that encourages positive ethical behavior, and interprsonal relationships                                              Communicates with the Athletic Director for resolution of issues as required. 

Encourages and promotes academic progress of student-athletes toward graduation.                                                                 Prioritizes academic supports whenever possible. Connects students with appropriate academic resources"

Leads and participates in university, department and team fundraising activities and events.   

Represents and serves as a spokesperson for the HU Athletic Department at professional, civic, charity, and alumni events.

Develops and manages relationships with donors and alumni that ultimately result in increases in philanthropic contributions.

Supervises Assistant and/or Associate Coach(es) and/or Graduate Assistant(s) associated with the specific athletic program.

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.

3 years of coaching/athletic experience or other relevant experience required.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use arms, hands and fingers to operate and manipulate equipment generally found in an office setting.  The employee may be frequently required to be mobile, communicate, and hear.  The employee may occasionally be subject to a variety of outdoor environmental conditions including heat, cold, and precipitation.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 45 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Mental demands include varied degrees of occasional stress while performing job duties.
